Looks like we will see if WoTC has created something that keeps the brand alive.
Summer 2014 will be here before you know it.

<joking> Hmmm... to make a summer '14 release... figure six months or so production time for books... they'll need to start the Kickstarter pretty early in the year to make this happen. </joking>

I don't think WoTC crowd fund - they ask Hasbro for the readies. Remember once WoTC was absorbed by Hasbro it became a corporate concern. Kick starters are for projects denied corporate sponsorship and/or to remain independent of corporate interference. The playtest was as much about marketing as it was about data mining (ref: big data) and generating a viable product. Aaron

Perhaps I should edit my remarks for clarity.

Perhaps I should edit my remarks for clarity. Ahh yep, sorry ;P . . . Though if they had kick starter back before pre-Hasbro WoTC may have avoided corporate assimilation. Aaron

Any word on format?
Will it be the classic 3 volume approach or one big book or what?

Nothing official, but I'd be awfully surprised if we didn't see the traditional three core books. Followed, of course, by a crap-ton of splat books adding various optional rule modules.

No inside info here, but based on a number of comments that I've heard from them I'm guessing we'll see something similar to the 2e model.
Three books, some splat, and a ton of campaign settings.

Campaign settings!!! Good I like settings - they're a veritable library of ideas to lift, steal and twist - much better endless splat books Aaron

Only if it has chapter on shafting said Chaos Lord on a blunt spike and a RULE that says 'now the DM must bitch slap the player' Aaron

I just want a REAL 3 book core set.
No splitting of the "classic" classes among several player handbooks to ensure more sales. That is WOTC betting on I'm a sucker, and I don't patronize people that think I'm an easy mark.
