Copying from another thread: Related to the first gaming nightmare: I also gamed with an older party member who wound up being arrested and jailed for child molestation. He played it off as a he said/she said accusation stemming from a dispute over money with the victim's mother. Then I was actually involved in his second arrest - this time for child pornography - about a year ago. Creeepy. I've recently been creeped out by an entire group of gamers because of some religious/spiritual, quite possibly psychotic, nutcases among them. I just broke off all contact with them, disappeared off their radar. It does at times seem like the hobby serves as a magnet to such cases. This might actually be an interesting show topic. I'd be interested in hearing other people's experiences and advice on how to deal with it.This.

Eh. It might turn into an attempt at psychology based partially on stereotypes and hearsay.
I propose an amendment to Happy Jacks Resolution 1 (Gaming Rules).

It might also be useful to see if potential cases of gaming creep-out can be recognized in advance. Are there signs that should send your alarm bells ringing even before you've been creeped out?
And what if the creepiness doesn't stop after you dispose of the player or leave the group?

If you're still creeped out after you dispose of the player or leave the group..... Well, then.... Congratulations. The creep is you.

It's perceived bias - we see what we expect to see despite objective truth. It's NOT that the hobby attracts creepy people, there are creepy out there - period. Your exposure to creepy people may be influenced by the social nature of the hobby - you probably meet just as many creepy people across all other sections of your life but you're unaware of it . . . Until the circumstances become such that their creepiness becomes evident. How many genuinely creepy people are arrested and all their work colleagues and neighbours say 'they never knew, s/he seemed like such a normal/quite/unassuming girl/guy'. Aaron

Its that rather unique situation created in RPGs where we get to play characters in potentially horrible situations and we get to see how one another would react. How often in a game of checkers do we get to decide if we will massacre the orc babies or not ? (And if you answer rather often, please let me play checkers with you...)

I regularly get to decide if I want to murder kings, queens, knights, bishops and the like... but then chess is infinitely more awesome than checkers!
