So, with some decent reception from a shared world idea I threw out, I decided, through recommendation, to put up a poll here. The poll will be to determine what sort of genre this shared world should be in. I did break down the genres quite a bit, hairsplitting I know, but hey refinement comes later. Whatever gets picked here over the course of the week will probably be what the shared world would go for. Though the poll will be up until March 1, since one, nothing will be done in a month's time, and two, just in case votes seem to sway once more people see it. So yeah, have fun. Oh, and post any arguments you may have towards one genre or another, and why it might work best for a shared world/persistent world, that us Jackers can all enjoy.

I put high/epic fantasy, with the caveat that I'd propose not quite medieval in style. I think we can do high fantasy better than the latest round of Tolkien cover bands.

I think some sort of fantasy would be easiest, but a multi-genre would be the best... but also the most difficult.

I would like to put in for the multi-genre. With that it would be the hardest to put togeather, but would allow for the greatest flexibility and could acomidate most or all of the other genres.

The thing about "shared world" (persistent worlds) is its kinda like a big sandbox that everybody gets to build in right ? One guy builds a castle, the next gal builds a labyrinth, and then the next douche brings in the tonka bulldozer and knocks it all down...we just have to be prepared for that to a degree. That's why I think (though so dude in Osaka will consider committing sepuku at the suggestion) create a UNIVERSE using SAVAGE WORLDS. Its fast, easy and generic. That way if Thar of the Hill People gets abducted by aliens and gets taken to Planet Tappy the rules are ready for it. GURPS is an amazing system, maxinstuff's Steampunk game is just starting to remind me of that. But, if we are hoping for simplicity of rules to really focus on a GAME WORLD WE CAN ALL PLAY (I really should work on my caps shouting...) I think SW is a go to. Even better! How about using the system of the guy that brought us all here in the first place...Moment of Truth! I'm currently running a Lovecraftian Horror game using Stu Venable's system and I think it is incredibly fast and flexible and really focuses on the narrative/fiction which is what I think we as a community are hoping to create here. Besides it never hurts to stroke the Grand Poobah's Ego...right? . A New Dark Age

I should probably take a look at Moment of Truth. Personally I was leaning towards Fate a bit, but I'm one of those hippie gamers. But I see Fate as something that can work pretty well, and is very easy to system hack if nothing else.

Yeah check out MoT. Psst don't tell Stu Venable but I think the boss mighta made a game built for drum circles. And I really like drum circles. (As long as the drums are being played by carnivorous gorilla centaurs)

The thing to remember is this is a setting, and should be system agnostic
