GURPS steampunk game being played over g+ on-air. Adventure log here (with session recordings): of-steamworks-and-magick-obscura.obsidianportal.com/adventure-logDue to the unholy time-wizards being unsuccessfully prevented from performing their dark equinox ritual, two players have been displaced! There is no telling how long it will take to reverse this dark magic (or, you know, 6 months). Two players wanted to take up contracts with Gordon Pembridge and Associates. Join our intrepid heroes, Vitus the PTSD suffering dwarven dirigible engineer, and The Mysterious Mr Graves, magician and wrench thrower extraordinaire. If you would like to play, the session is scheduled for this coming Saturday 29th at 6pm happyjacks standard time (PST, or AKST as D.T. Pints calls it (cunt)).

Saturday PST? That'd be during the day on Friday here, which won't work. But I have a feeling you mean Friday night in the US / Saturday for Aus & NZ?
If so, I'm interested.

No I really do mean Saturday 6pm PST. For me it is actually 1pm Sunday AEST, you know, to avoid confusion. What time zone are you in that you are a day before? EDIT: if you are in NZ then it will be around 4pm-ish Sunday for you.

Sunday afternoon I can do!

Hmm, more like the Rugby World Cup result of 1999, but who's counting?

Yesss, I would love to volunteer. Been wanting to try GURPS for ages, and steampunk is amazing.

scubasteve, snoman314 - do you guys have a character concept? The game is set in London - and there are race and character guidelines (loose) on the obsidian portal page. I've just realised I have MERE DAYS to prep this now.

I have a vague idea, I'll send you a pm and see if I can hammer it into something more concrete.

Hmm, I've always been interested by the Gadgeteer advantage and steampunk seems like it'd be a good setting for it. I wouldn't want to step on the toes of the Dwarven engineer though.
The only other idea I've had is an heir to some rich nobility, who's been cut off from his family's fortune due to his rakish behavior, but who is actually some kind of secret agent. Sounds a bit steampunk-James-Bond when I write it like that, but not what I was thinking.

Hey! I'll have you know that PST is in fact 1 hour ahead of AKST. A state this big deserves its own time zone. 1,518,800 km2 Alaska. 7,692,024 km2 Australia. 423,970 km2 California. 268,680 km2 New Zealand. Can we have initiative based on our respective land sizes ?

Perhaps you could focus on more of "mad scientist" gadgeteer...it is GURPS and possibilities are fuckin' endless. Vitus is more of a dirty, scrounger, tinkerer with an inordinate amount of obsession with airships. Your guy might be the rich heir of the guy that invented the latest turbine; or because its also rather magical...maybe a Frankenstein or Captain Nemo style ? I would like to see some mashup of the magical/technological in this game. This is from the wikipedia site regarding Arcanum (which I believe His Gurpiness maxinstuff) is using as a big inspiration for the game).

The gadgeteer concept I had in mind sounds pretty different to that Dwarf character. The closest comparison I can think of is Professor Calculus in Tintin: An absent minded boffin that is nevertheless able to build a trans-dimensional wormhole gate (or something) in an afternoon, using the junk found in the boot of your car. 'What do you mean you wanted me to fix the engine so we can drive out of this wasteland? Now we can just walk through the wormhole gate. Just as soon as we find somewhere to plug this thing in...'
