Ok guys, I've been running a home game now for a few months. In my game the heroes of the Second Day of Thunder are dead and the only way to defeat the evil god Fu Leng is for the chosen 6 to find the Books of the Elements(books written by the oracles of the elements since the beginning of time). Each of my players is a chosen Keeper for one of these books. We have Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Void, and All. The books have current protectors who are tasked at testing each potential Keeper based on that elements' philosophies and such.
So far we have had Earth, which entailed the fortune of soil testing our hero by having him show how earth can protect itself(the player made clay into bricks and mortar which he then used to build a stout wall), defend itself (the player wove spiky brambles into a covering over some young seedlings), and spread itself around the world(the player showed off a single acorn). Then we had Fire, which entailed the son of the previous Keeper putting the new initiate through his paces. The entire party was forced to decide what to do with fire based versions of themselves. This was to illustrate that fire can be tamed or it can be whipped into a frenzy. Most figured out quickly that if they did nothing the fire would dissipate and go away... others didn't. The actual potential Keeper was then set a task to cross a pit of lava jumping from one one foot pillar to the next. The pillars were ten feet apart but upon the successful answering of a trivia question the pillar moved closer. Once across to the other side the player was told "Fire harms and fire heals, fire is fickle in this way. One must determine if the risk is worth the reward." and then pointed at a thirty foot diameter pillar of bright fire. When the player crossed to the inside he took 6k6 damage which took him to down. He had to use his void points to grab the book of fire and roll out of the pillar which then healed him 6k6 damage.
Anyway I have similar ideas for the books of Air and Water, but my players decided this last session that they want to search for Void next. This one has me stumped. On all others I tried to read up the section in the main book about how the elements react when communed with and based the tasks on that and the attributes linked to the rings(Earth dislikes the mortal world and is based on stamina and willpower, fire is flighty and usually requires you burn something as a sacrifice and is based on intelligence and agility). Void has no such entry and has no attributes linked to it, I was thinking I might instead use skills but only two skills use void: tea ceremony and meditation. I'm at a loss for what would make up a good test for the Togashi Tattooed Man destined to be the Keeper of this book.
Before you ask, no one is definitely getting their book so the test can be difficult I don't mind that. But each potential Keeper was chosen because of their character's innate connection to that element so it should be something they have a fairly reasonable chance at completing. Any ideas?
