I had a conversation with my wife this morning, about her trying to game. She could be classified as 'afraid' to game. She's afraid that she'll not do it right or that she'll look stupid. I've tried to explain that the folks I game with would be super nice. gandalftheplaid, malifer, moonday, snoman314 are all awesome players who I'm sure would embrace a newbie. So that's less of a concern for me. My connundrum is that she wants to play in a fantasy Diablo2-esque game. It's what she's familiar with. She stated in no uncertain terms that she wants to play an 'Ice Sorceress.' On my drive in I thought about systems, and I figure if the mechanical sameness was hidden, SW or FAE would be good fits. But I can't run it. Somebody else has to. So I ask you, the douchbag community, who will run a game for me and my wife? A veteran of many campaigns and a complete newb. (BTW, Eastern time zone)

So you want a Diablo game in fate or savage worlds for 2 players? Or do you have other players?

Well Fate or SW were just suggestions, but a Diablo-esque game would be perfect. I can probably round up a few other players depending on the time. Perhaps something just using the mythos of the Diablo games, definitely not the railroad hack fest that the video game is though. Thanks for responding Forresst

I don't know anything at all about Diablo, SW, or Fate, but I live on the East coast and might be able to join in. All depends on the day/time. I'm keepin' an eye on this.

I don't know anything about Diablo either. But I love me some SAVAGE WORLDS! Fate is cool to though. Yeah I'm down but my time is limited for the next few months. My best availability is Saturday Nights 7:30pm-1am EST (I do get a little loopy after midnight though) But it's okay if that doesn't work for anyone else.

I wish I had some GMing experience to help. Since I don't, I'd love to play in the game. I'd be honored to help ease your wife into the rpg experience.

Have you talked to her about the differences between a computer based RPG and pen and paper ? She might be a bit overwhelmed by all the talking to XP going on... My wife really appreciated the Dungeon World questions and world building before any actual "what do you want to do ?" started. And those world building sessions lead to some great new aspects of my campaign.

It's funny because I immediately thought of Dungeon World when I thought about how a Diablo game could go. On the other hand, Fate might work too, and since I own Fate but not Dungeon World, if you don't mind a first spin around the system I think I could do that.
So, here is my offer:
I have RL game night every second Saturday, and I could probably do a Diablo style game on the off weeks. I'm in PDT, and I could probably comfortably run around 5 my time, or 8 Eastern. I don't generally like to run remote games for more than 3-4 hours at a stretch. I think I could mush something together for about a 4-6 session small campaign. Once that's over, you can decide how you want to proceed.
I'm a grouchy control freak GM though, and I want to be present for character gen. Nothing bugs me more than people coming to my character gen session going "OK I made my guy he's a blah with blah powers blah blah blah blah" and I'm like "well, crap. Now you think this is session 1."

Also what do you mean by diablo-esq?
Hack and Slash?
I dont know your wife but you dont think that after the 10th encounter in a single session she will get a bit bored? I know I would!!!

More along the lines of "go lay waste to the forces of hell, and return balance to the fragile world of Sanctuary" type of quest. Visit places, find stuff, kill this person and elevate that one.

I'm not really in a position to contribute much at this point, but just thought I'd let you know I'm keeping an eye on this.

I think 3 hours is a good goal for time, then if it goes a bit long no worries. I'm a grouchy control freak GM though, and I want to be present for character gen. Nothing bugs me more than people coming to my character gen session going "OK I made my guy he's a blah with blah powers blah blah blah blah" and I'm like "well, crap. Now you think this is session 1." No worries there. I think that can be helpful for new players both to TRPG and to new systems.

Yeah the mythos of Diablo is something she's very familiar with so that's what I mean by Diablo-eqsue. She's in the room when I play every friday so she's well aware of the lack of combat and the narrative interactions in RPGs. It doesn't hurt that I'm an accent freak and like to personalize my characters with them. 8 on a Saturday could work. And I think that cgen in a group is always the way to go. Especially in DW or FAE. Now Forresst you mention FATE, do you also have FAE? I think the simpler rules and lack of a skill pyramid would be better. Also on FATE to DW comparison, the classes in Diablo would fit better into a FATE system I think. moonday and heavymetaljess I'd love to have a few female players in the game, and Forresst as a female GM would be the bomb for bringing her into the hobby. Not to disparage any of my male counterparts that is. <please excuse any rambling or disjointedness in this post, I'm on a vidodin hangover>

Not to disparage any of my male counterparts that is. No offense taken. In fact a major reason my wife stopped Rping is the other wife in the group never really got into it and stopped playing. My wife said it was hard to be the only girl. Personally I would like to go from a "can" play to an Alternate. I think this thread is going really well and would kind of like to hear about the game these ladies create.
