I've recently started running an L5R campaign, and have been thoroughly enjoying the setting. One thing I like to do while game mastering is to play setting or theme appropriate music, but after combing my limited audio library, I've found I have almost nothing that fits a Japanese or even Eastern setting.
Do any of the awesome Happy Jackers have any tracks, bands, or sources they can recommend for this purpose? For other settings, I've found that the best music usually walks a fine line of being distinct but not distracting.

Well it depends a lot on the tone of your game as which Eastern/Orient setting music to advise. Eg: if it's high on diplomacy with culture and courtiers and politics I'd advise sourcing Kabuki Theatre, if it's action and martial arts then there are few Samurai films that'd be appropriate . . . I used to do music in games before it got too distracting for me, and when I did I loved taiko(drums). Kodo is a particularly popular taiko group.

I really enjoyed playing the ocarina during my L5R games with Sir Guido. Oh and creating fantastic haiku's...like this one! (I love having just the faintest reason to repost my game trailers). Although I'm not sure if aerosmith qualifies as L5R music for you...it sure as hell did for Hida Jimunsha.
Man I miss that guy.

Soundtracks! The Last Samurai soundtrack is relatively cheap. There is a Music of Kurosawa cd set, but it's expensive!

It's not mine, but I've found this playlist and have been listening to it while writing my campaign. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF1D7051C2A6ECD47I've thought of using music in campaigns, and I feel it would work great IRL, but not so well in something like roll20 (even with the jukebox feature). What are people's experiences with that?
