So I'm seriously considering running a game of Annalise over Roll20. I'm posting here because I don't think I'll be able to get it together before Jackercon (for numerous reasons, moving into a new house and starting a new job this week being front and center).
The largest hurdle is finding a way to manage all the physical details in Roll20 (I think it's doable, but I'm going to have to get clever) as the book keeping aspect is closer to that of a board game. Once I have a system that works I'll be posting a date.
For those who don't know about Annalise:
Annalise is a "Fiasco-esque" structured story telling game about vampires. Although, about half the time the vampire is a supernatural being or force and half the time it's a metaphorical horror. They describe the game as telling stories about characters with personal pain while they wrestle against a force that consumes and destroys. It's a serious game, and usually an emotionally challenging one as well.
Unlike fiasco, it is NOT rules light. It is, in fact, rules heavy. It is a complicated, rules heavy, improv focused, game of personal horror.
Also unlike Fiasco, it isn't built to be 2.5 hours. It takes "as long as necessary to meet the characters, develop what hunts them, and confront it and maybe find redemption."
I'm thinking a 4 to 6 hour session should be feasible for a game that "takes as long as it takes." Although splitting into two sessions could be feasible, but potentially detrimental to the mood.
Also, because I'd be the only one familiar with the complicated rules and we have a time crunch, I'll be participating under the "facilitator rules" only. It seems the best way to keep things moving so I can manage as much of the bookkeeping as possible and leave everyone else to improv some doomed as characters.
Roll20 challenges:
I have figured out easy ways to handle character sheets.
I am still working on an easy way to "billboard" the achievements and consequences that doesn't take damn ages.
My tests so far have not been promising for handling claims. At all. I need to figure out if it's possible to make multiple GMs in the game...
So yeah, if I can bend Roll20 to my will, is there any brave people interested?
EDIT: Looks like Roll20 supports multiple GMs.
This might work after all. I might pay for access to the program API to see if the new features sets add anything that helps.
