For those that don't care about the rest, here's a link to the official site: Paizo Pathfinder UnchainedSo here's a lobbed shell in the fight with D&D 5E, Paizo has created Pathfinder: Unchained. Its not a complete re-do of the wheel, but as one of the writers said "its sort of Pathfinder's Unearth Arcana equivalent". Basically they got their rules experts together and said "take Pathfinder and ignore backwards compatibility and ignore tradition, make new classes, new rules, go nuts". I am excited to see what they're going to do, because in my eyes this is Paizo toying with the idea of moving beyond Pathfinder 1.0 and maybe testing the waters(and testing the gameplay) of some rules they've had up their sleeve and homebrewed for a while.

I don't know that I'd put this book/Unearthed Arcana in the splat category. It looks more like optional rules than more fodder, or even a system update.

So from what I read on Paizo's site they have decided to make Pathfinder in FATE. I could do this now with the Freeport Companion for FATE's FAE.
I do kind of agree with OutofPrintDM, Paizo is beginning to get a bit crazy with their hardbound book collection. Though it is nothing like what TSR and WotC did toward the end of D&D 2e and 3e.

It makes a lot of sense, much of what DND 5e does sounds suspiciously like a way to structure and mechanize fate-like aspects. And Fred Hicks has always said something to the effect of: There's more to fate than aspects (you can bolt those onto any game system), just like there is more to Gumshoe than clue resolution (you can stick that onto another game just as easily), both are merely modern solutions to age old problems and neither is the final answer."

I think there is A LOT of "I like FATE but there's just not enough there to satisfy my D&D groups to convince them to play a long term game". Hell, even with Savage Worlds people complain there's not enough there to do a long campaign with and its not as "lite" as FATE.
So there's a market for taking FATE like ideas and throwing them into some D20ish goodness. We have 13th Age already, and now we have D5D(I just came up with that... I think I like that), and Pathfinder Unchained. So I think it make sense. People are already house ruling this kind of thing into games, so why not try and beat any competitor to the punch. If anyone knows about beating someone with their own game, its Paizo.

I'm super excited to see where Unchained goes. I don't have a lot of faith that it won't be a flaming car wreck, but it has potential.

its another splatbook. Pathfinder is Basically D&D 3.5 by another name, with a cranked up power level across the board. the most recent pathfinder splatbook i own is the advanced class guide. which i only bought for a few online campaigns, before i discovered there were better systems for me out there. i mean, the new classes will never be as blatantly overpowered as the wizard, with the Exception of Wizard 2.0 (AKA Arcanist). but most of them do power creep compared to the classes they are based on, for example, Slayer, Alchemist, and Investigator are better rogues, and well, the sheer number of Archetypes that steal other classes gimmicks to remove class identity.
i mean, rogue and monk were the only 3/4 B.A.B. martial classes with no inherent way to reliably beef up their classes attack and damage bonus in an independent manner inherently built into their classes chassis. and both of them eat up a ton of feats trying to catch up with what the barbarian did 8 levels ago. even in optimal conditions
the Slayer fixed the rogue by trading a handful of sneak attack dice for an upgrade in the accuracy department, plus the brawler fixed the monk by removing that supernatural Qui bullshit and trying to be Jet Li instead of Trying to be Avatar Aang. some people wanted to play a Ezio Auditore or Jet Li character for years, but didn't want to be saddled with the abilities native to Lara Croft or Avatar Aang.
at the same time, i will say, some of the new classes outshine their older counterparts. due to being less all over the place. for example, the slayer does a better job of Ezio Auditore than the Rogue Did of Lara Croft, much like the Brawler did a better job of Jet Li than the Monk Did of Avatar Aang. some classes, usually see a daily consumable ability as an upgrade, but if you look at some of the classes from ACG. i like some of the quality of life upgrades, even though i admit they are blatant power creep.
i will Say, Advanced Race Guide and Advanced Class Guide are good Sourcebooks. Ultimate Combat is pretty good if you don't mind reskinning the Samurai, Gutting out the Gunslinger and Ninja, and Removing the Various rules for firearms, vehicles and siege weapons. piecemeal armor is perfectly fine though.
