I recently bought the GURPS (4E) Basic Set, and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to run through a short adventure with me as a player, keeping in mind that my goal is to wrap my head around the system and figure out how to GM a game. The generic nature of the system really appeals to me, so I'm hoping to play through a scenario that isn't medieval fantasy.
I would especially ask that we go over character creation in detail instead of using a pregenerated character, because that's a major problem for me too. I can play over G+ or Roll20, although my laptop's webcam is busted.

Heya yeknom02, I could maybe, possibly, tentatively get together sometime for a couple hours, bang out a character and maybe an encounter or two. I have a huge problem with timing for online stuff, though, namely that I work from midnight to 8am PST. My main window for leisure stuff is about 9am - 1pm PST, so noon - 4pm your time? Someone else might have an easier schedule to work with EDIT: In fact, some people are already running GURPS online games!

mook - Well, I'm a grad student, so my schedule's actually fairly flexible. It may not be as hard to schedule something during those hours as you might think. I'm hesitant to jump right into someone else's ongoing (or even new) GURPS game because I specifically want to learn the game from both sides of the table. If it were a proper game, I would be pissing off all the players (and maybe the GM) by asking a new question every other minute.

I've still got my character rolling around on my cloud drive. Or I could add you as a cameo in my modern Horror game. we have two sessions scheduled right now. this friday evening (eastern time) and then two weeks after.

You played a great game of Edge of the Empire in the last Jackercon (or just before IV). Most of these GURPS guru's make it really accessible. And I think we all are trying to make these games readily "guest star" ready. Just because everyone is so busy and this is such a great community of players/GMs to tap into.

Yes!! maxinstuff, you should totally start that game up again! I still have all the airship floorplans and everything!! Anyways yeknom - I'd be more than happy to go over GURPS stuff with you via G+. I'm in New Zealand, so timezones may be an issue. Maybe I could give you a GURPS primer, help you with character creation, and then you could drop into the game Houndin is running. Hopefully that would allay any concerns you might have about being a new player dropping into an established game? We are looking for another player, as Houndin has posted about. The next session is coming up fast though, so if you like the sound of that, send me a message on G+: www.google.com/+JamesAustinOtherwise no pressure, I'll take you through stuff some other time if you like. Oh, and check out The Mook's 'How to Be a GURPS GM'
