All, I started a project on Reddit a few months ago to build a world with a community. It went strong for a week or two but has slowly died off. I want to continue to build this world, but I didn't want to keep spamming reddit for help. Essentially, this world is made up of flying islands in the sky called "shards". The idea behind the subreddit was to allow people to submit content (a shard, a religion, a class, a major even) to the subreddit and it would be there for anyone to use. I was taking the good content and putting into Realm Works to use for my own campaign. This content would be available for all to use, but it needs to get kicked into gear again! That is where you all come in! I love this podcast and I know it has very creative listeners. If this is something you would like to contribute to (even if it is just a small shard and that is it) feel free to come on over to the subreddit and put some content up. Use it as a place to scratch your creative itch. Use it as a sound board. Use it to steal ideas. Use if for whatever you want...but it only works if people are active on it. Anyways, here is the link! www.reddit.com/r/Shardsofpreth/Thoughts, ideas, feedback, or anything else is appreciated. Just post it in this thread or on the subreddit and I will see it Happy world building!

I do think World Building would be a great addition to the podcast. I'd like to see it be a part of the Argument Phase!. I sat down with uselesstriviaman and we discussed not necessarily a world but a single "con" scenario for the show. It was a ton of fun and I think getting GMs on to discuss their favorite plots, worlds, etc. and maybe help them with a sticking place makes for great listening. I'll throw my stuff your way too khaymus for my Moment of Truth Lovecraftian horror game. What I'd like to get some input on is what other aspects of the story can bring in a world wrapped up in a global conspiracy. A New Dark AgeAnyway I'll check out your world. Looks very cool. I am curious how you'd like to see the mixing of "Essence" (magic users?) and Steam power. I played in maxinstuff's GURPS steampunk game which involved magic and tech and I often wondered how the two coexisted. Why not just have magic do everything ? Why bother having tech ? Is magic just too difficult to utilize for big projects like airships and bridges between shards ?

Thanks for the input I have not thought too much about Essence and Steam mixing and why people use one over the other....maybe something as simple as that much magic power cannot be maintained by one person. Instead of having many magic users have to maintain the Essence stream to keep a bridge floating or an airship afloat, the people invented steam for those long term problems. I will check your stuff out and see if I can come up with anything fun to add. And yes, I love world building! I think I have built many worlds that most people will probably never even see or play in. I feel bad for those people in those worlds D:

Is magic just too difficult to utilize for big projects like airships and bridges between shards ? At least in my setting - magic is really in decline, primarily due to the industrial revolution. Mages are sufficiently scarce and expensive/difficult to train that widespread application is not practical. Add to this that tech is easy for any mug to use. Mages kind of lose their hold over people when anyone can just buy a mass produced pistol for a few pounds and ammo is dirt cheap. As the famous slogan says, "God may have made men, but Samuel Colt made them equal".

I'd like to see it be a part of the Argument Phase! *ahem* So when are we scheduling a World Building episode of the Argument Phase? That would be a good way to kickstart that whole shared Happy Jack's world we talked about forever ago (see empty Wiki). khaymus: I've subscribed to your subreddit. I'll have to do some readin' before I can start sending things over, though.

Thanks heavymetaljess. It is kind of dead right now, but I am working with a mod to try to get a banner. That might draw in some new users or keep some old ones there

At GenCon, I played a game called Clockwork Dominion. It's a steampunk setting where magic exists, but isn't commonly used because technology is more efficient. As the guy running the game put it, "You could spend ten years of your life studying magic to learn how to teleport from point A to point B ... or you could just get on a train."
