Anyone else have a system or setting that they just can't maintain a campaign due to random real-life issues?
In our group's experience, it's Earthdawn. I love GMing Earthdawn. The players love playing it. We all get fired up when I talk about running it. I've started three separate campaigns of it, and they've all died out on 3-4 months of play. This is due mostly to real-life issues (work schedules, moving, family needs), and we're all sad to see it did out. Now I'm sitting on books for three different editions of the game, and about once a month one of the players will bring Earthdawn up, and I have to say, "I really, really want to run it again, but I can't. Earthdawn is cursed for us." Then we both just shake our heads morosely.

The first Firefly campaign I tried to run suffered from a horrible scheduling curse, despite all the players being eager to play were averaged about one session every two to three months. Think we made it about six sessions before we ended it and luckily the follow-up worked much better.

The promethean game I posted about a few weeks ago still hasn't happened due work, children stuff, and technical problems (finally sat down to try online with it and my webcam pulled this crazy scrambled green bullshit nonsense - then crying child five minutes later).
I have put that game on the back burner in favor of something that doesn't require a carefully cultivated atmosphere of personal horror which I've realized I can't pull off under these conditions...
Previously, our most cursed game was when I ran a game that never felt quite right and it kept dying out because of it. After changing systems 4 times (and having it die out each time - WoD, FateCore, FAE, D6) and constantly resurrecting the game over a year and a half, we finally found a system that fit the feel we all wanted (Gurps, and it was great).
Then I lost my group, but that's another story.

I've got one campaign that I've tried running a couple of times. I keep botching it. The first time, I switched systems early on for what I thought were good reasons, and the changes in the characters really irked some of my players.
The second time, I think that I rushed the game too much. Its meant to have a sort of epic, continent-trotting feel to it, and I don't know how to get that without bogging down in too much "OK, day three, you keep riding. Nothing really happens..."
Someday, I'll get it right... ^.^

I have a jungle setting like this. It was such a failure the first two sessions that the group said, "We don't want to play this anymore."
Now any time I bring up anything remotely jungle related I get the stink eye. I think if I ever want to run that setting again it will have to be with an entirely new group. Maybe when I get the Southlands books with the 5E monster conversion I might run a group through it with that system.
I just wanted a pulpy, dinosaur-laden, jungle romp. Is that so much to ask?! DX

I have a game like this. It's a fantasy post-apocalyptic game. I tried running it back in the days of D&D 4e, couldn't get the group together, random dropouts, no notice-no shows, etc... Tried again with my current gaming group, they are reliable and fun to play with, suddenly everyone has scheduling conflicts, We tried doing it in FAE. With the same group, after everyone settled down, we tried again, and it failed horribly.
It is the cursed game, any other game we play, we have no problems.

I've got a few that I've had trouble getting off the ground. I've tried running Fate twice. In both games, I was unable to maintain player attention after two hours or so (different groups and games). That might be a sign that I just don't jive well with Fate; who knows.
I've also been interested in giving Burning Wheel a shot. Unfortunately, before I was able to begin a game, my buddy's new puppy got a hold of the book and did to it what I imagine Stu would if he happened across a copy. I've since gotten another copy, but have refrained from planning a game in it to prevent additional damage.
