My players in Sundered Skies have decided that since they hate the main force of elves, and the elves are essentially plant creatures, that the players will eat elves and insist to people that the players are vegetarians.
sigh...

Woe be it to someone who eats a plant elf, for they will find the flora and fauna in their guts will rearrange as a result of eating a sentient plant, the cells of which are clones of the original. And lo, after a gestation period, it will burst forth from the chest of the hapless human as a plant half-elf. Mitochondrial energy, and all the regrowth of a plant.....and they are pissed!
Now look at what they have done!

Hmm. I suspect the rest of the elves won't be that impressed. I wouldn't be surprised if the party were staked out in the glow.

Consumption of the elves should result in Olestra inspired continual anal leakage that will make it easy for the rest of the elves to track and hunt them.

I will sum up my opinion on this topic in one word, "Ramifications." If they want to eat elves ok, but there are ramifications, namely they just made mortal enemies out of all the elves and everyone allied with them, and since the eating of sentient creatures is generally considered a bad thing that's going to be a lot of people and there won't be much of anything in the way of mercy or understanding from them.
Mortal enemies and blood feuds really suck when the other side outnumbers and outguns you at every turn.
Just my 2 krupplenicks worth, your mileage may of course vary.

It'll suck when they realize there is a ship of Oakthorns after them. And it's hard to deny it when you start gaining elven traits but clearly aren't elven (maybe based on who they ate: blood roses, ivy crawl, spores, etc.) Alternatively, eating creatures influenced by the Leaflord would likely lead to being tainted oneself. possibly in less beneficial ways than the ones I listed earlier.

Right now the vegetarian thing is an in joke among the party, since they are not explaining it to any NPCs, just making me shake my head. The elves got killed to a last elf up in Canopy, and I am letting some time play out before the ship they dumped off for cheap gets traced back to them. Then the poisoned arrows from rooftops start flying.
I never thought about what eating an elf can do...and that damn Demon that leads the elves...hrm...

Time to bust out one of my favorite RPG consequences: ADDICTION!
Which goes hand in hand with withdrawal.

I will sum up my opinion on this topic in one word, "Ramifications." JiB I'm going to side with JiB on this one, but with a twist. Wait for it... disease. Of course there will be social consequences to 'eating sentient beings' along the order of the Outsider Hindrance or Racial Enemy (-4 Charisma with members of the victimized culture attacking them on sight), but Savage GMs often overlook the simple dastardliness of Hazards in my opinion. Everything I do as a GM in Savage Worlds is about conditioning the players to embrace the game and invest themselves in the story. If role play is lacking, hand out Bennies for it. If they are being immature fucktards, well.... a Long-Term Chronic, Majorly Debilitating disease might get the point across. These diseases cause constant irritation and exhaustion and eventually end in death! The symptoms (whatever they are) leave the character permanently Exhausted (-2 to all Trait tests), which makes it incredibly easy for them to become Incapacitated from Fatigue checks (like environmental effects, hunger, thirsts, etc.). At the start of every game session, the character must make a Vigor roll (including -2 Fatigue). If his total is ever a 1 or less, he’s going die before the session ends. If I wanted to be a real dick about it, I'd make sure the Elves are the only ones with the magical healing necessary to treat the disease. If the disease doesn't get him, the -2 Fatigue when trying to Soak Wounds will. Anyway, thats my evil $0.02 on the matter.

That sounds like a really solid approach. Ramifications...

So the ones involved have this strange disease now that has manifested physically in one of them. They have spent several thousand cogs worth of barter to get that guy cured, not realizing it will eventually be required of the other two.
One guy suspects what happened due to the physical syymptoms and has sworn never to eat another elf again. The others are not so sure about his theory.
In the meantime, the elves have now found their missing ship, traced it back through the person the adventurers sold the ship to (a highly regarded fencer character the adventurers have now lost as a contact because - well, he is dead). Since the characters are pretty well known in the void for their exploits the elves plan to ambush the characters deep in the void to take the characters back to heartland (or just stake them out on a rock. I am unsure which I plan to do yet.)

Sweet. I was about to request an update.
By the way, what physical symptoms presented?
Eventually this could work out well, if they (at some point) surrender themselves so they can get thrown in the fleshforge. But it's likely too early for that.

Sleeplessness, vomiting and rash. Start sapping stats. It's hard to fight when you are queasy. It's hard to concentrate when you are exhausted. Itching rashes just suck...
