OK, I have a player in a LARP who is going to marry a member of Fairy Royalty. Try as I might I cannot find anything to give inspiration for a courtship or wedding of fae. Has anyone ever seen a resource be it RPG or story or really anything that could help give me some ideas for this?

Or in a more modern setting The Rivers of London, also known as Midnight Riot in the US, by Ben Aaronovich. Towards the end, there's a marriage between two river faeries, by the Ankerwyke Yew

It's been 20 years since I saw MND...
OK, let me rephrase, do you guys from reading stuff like this have any suggestions on how to make a courtship and wedding more "Fae-like?"
While the Fae are obviously influenced by the Winter and Summer courts (with Spring and Autumn thrown in) from the Dresden Files, any background will do. Trying to look up those books now...
Thank you for the replies.

OK, what's the LARPers character?
Re Courtship, the idea of exchange of gifts is vital, both for Royal betrothals and for Faeries. Of course you'll know that gifts especially food from faeries can be a trap, so anyone (but mortals in particular) will not want to accept anything from the Fae unless they are assured that no obligation is connected to the gift - that it is "freely given" there can be a bunch of ceremony around this.
Then of course there's the exchange of gifts between the marrying families. Acquiring a gift worthy of the FAE can be an adventure in itself. It's a long time since I read Rivers of London, so I can't recall the exact circumstances, but our Hero (a cop in the Met's magical crimes unit) had to spend his life savings on a (truck) trailer full of Red Stripe... Then again the gift could be a simple story, which is a shoe-in for LARPing.
There's another Faerie queen in a post-apocalyptic folk song by Jon Boden, who wanted a gift of sweet-wrappers (difficult to get of course, after the apocalypse).
Then there places, where will the wedding take place? The one in Rivers of London took place by a 2000 year old tree (a real one, the great thing about that series of books is the places are all real) called the Ankerwyke Yew. (Google it - by coincidence it's a tree that I have some professional responsibility for).

Plus you have to remember how different the Fey are, compared to mortals. Their existence is prolonged and so is their perspective - time both passes quickly and slowly thus ritual, and the strict adherence to it becomes important ie: long established customs of forms would be the norm. Given that long, protracted and elaborate displays following the expected conventions a) aren't that long for near immortals, b) they fill in the time and c) grant the opportunity to break the ennui of their protracted existence when things don't 'go as expected' (vis a vis the hilarity and entertainment that can ensue when an amusing mortal is tricked into making a faux par). Also fey are often described as literal beings of nature (ie: the two courts) - so that symbolism would be very evident in any ceremonies/rituals. Aaron

Read about Pagan Handfastings and listen to Fairport Convention's Tam Lin (wouldn't hurt to read about Tam Lin and the other fae folk lore...) If this is a marriage of mortal to fae, it could just follow the Tam Lin transformation plot. If fae to fae then it could be an enactment of the concept "I will hold to thee, through all the seasons." Warning: this could spawn interpretive dance...
Timing is EVERYTHING! The solstice isn't the day, it's the MOMENT of alignment. Think esoteric physics math, you have to be here at this moment and then move to there by then.
HTH!

Love Fairport's Tam Lyn, but if yours is a more urban fantasy a la Dresden (or PC Peter Blake) then listen to Tam Lyn (Retold) for a modern take... Benjamin Zephaniah And bear in mind that Fairport's version (like many but not all trad versions) paints the Fairies as Satan's horde, out to sacrifice Tam's soul to Hell, replace his eyes with wood and his heart with stone. Not nice.

Yeah but . . . Fairport Convention - that's like a secret password that'll get you the better beer at the right pub. By better I mean from some small esoteric micro-brewery that relies on word-of-mouth. It can even get invited to 'secret pubs' . . . old workers/miners/farmers pubs up in the hills that retain their license by some virtue of some dusty by-law and their location is never discussed unless one is invited [there's one up my way and on your first few visits you are blindfolded so you don't know where it is . . . unless you happen to end up being the nominated driver by happenstance:)] Aaron
