happyjacks.org/hjpr1402It's up. The show definitely has a different vibe at 11am on Saturday. Not as much drinking (I started the show with coffee, until Rob played the short card). We'll eventually settle into a new rhythm, but it'll take a couple episodes.

Phew. I saw that show title and thought I brought the technoplague with me from Japan again. Good to know I didn't crash the show in that sense. And hey. I only mentioned [redacted] once.

I missed the stream cause I wasn't sure when it was going to be. Then when I went to watch I thought "Who is that guy, I don't recognize him at all" and then I felt dumb

Or maybe just held a copy of Dungeon World over your face the entire night

Thanks for reading my e-mail. :-)
'To do a Kimi' means that, as a quick gut reaction, say no to a player's idea or suggestion when there wasn't any reason to not say yes.
After writing the e-email, I feel a little ashamed for using the phrase. 'To do a Kimi' should be something more like spending hours on making props for your players.

Hipster gaming ruination aside, this was a very good episode! Player gifts: I always try to make and/or buy something for my game group that has something to do with the game or the characters. For example in the game I'm in now, Supernatural based on the show, I made every player and the GM a hunter's journal like they use in the first seasons of the show. I handmade them basically a blank book with the covers customized to their characters. Last year for Christmas, I commissioned bloodsparrow to make me some laser cut d20 Christmas ornaments which worked out really well also. This year I was thinking of making some hand stamped metal keychains with our group's name on it. I also second the idea of the group meal, we do that fairly often as well. In my previous gaming career I ran a game where I made a typical tavern menu of stew, bread, beer, fruit, cheese, etc and tasked each player with bringing one of those items. I made the stew and put out all of my ren faire mugs on the table and played some of my favorite ren faire music softly in the background. It was probably my favorite session I've ever run and not just because I'm a big fat guy. The immersion changed around the table, people were immediately more in character and had a great time.

I was listening to the first email read in the car (going to work) and the FIRST thing that I thought was: WHAT ABOUT THE LEVITATION/MOVE OBJECTS/FORCE PUSH SKILL? - then Tyler and company lived up to expectations by saying exactly the same thing within seconds of finishing the email. Have a post show drink peoples, early morning podcasting may take a bit of getting used to, for you guys, but you're razor sharp with all that caffeine. Maybe, with the change of time, we should start suggesting appropriate coffees instead of beers to help our hosts - I can suggest 'Rocket Fuel', the first mouthful can taste like shit (unless you use sweetener, which I don't) but it does exactly what it says on the tin . . . What about coffee/beer combos? Around here we've got one called "Morning Wood", dark ale with coffee, supposed to drink for breakfast apparently. Well that's what it says anyway. I really enjoyed the show, and cool to hear Hyvemynd on, I had to have a real good chuckle when they described his gaming group. (Although that sounds alot like our group, but with more rules lol) I'm a big fan of Japan and I'd like to make a journey over but the law you talked about is the #1 reason I couldn't live there T_T
As for "setting the scene" with lighting and props and stuff, it can seriously go a long way. I ran a "play as yourself" horror game like 4 years ago, we played in the same place we normally did, except I dimmed the lights and put on Nox Arcanas "Necronomicon" album, spooky shit muh friends, wicked fuckin spooky. One player actually shouted and jumped out of his seat cus as he was stretching his shadow was cast on the wall above/behind him, 2spooky4him.
As the DM/GM whatever over the setting, over the music, over system, the biggest factor to game tone in my opinion is your delivery! Remember they will feed of your vibes, so if you begin to whisper and talk lower and slowly they will lean in to hear and quiet down, and slowly adopt your style. In that note here's a favorite trick of mine for that, I call it the "FUCK THAT" move. When something is really dangerous or spooky or you need to add tension just kinda fade out talking during your room/area description, begin to mention spooky shit and let it hang. Phrase it so as characters, they cannot see/hear/whatever and must get closer to hear/see more, if done right they will respond with a resounding "FUCK THAT!", but they will still want, nay, NEED to find out whats inside. ;D

Oh man, I can finally make the live shows note with the sweet new time slot.
Also, you're right, the show sounds so different without you guys drinking.

I missed Stork. Also, daytime shows (if this is any indication) have a completely different feeling than the evening ones.

As for why the guy didn't use his telekinesis power, I suspect that if he was a beginning character that he may not have had the ability. He mentioned what he wanted (lightsaber and telekinesis) and said he got his lightsaber. This makes sense since when starting a new character in D6 you either have the Alter force ability (which includes things like telekinesis) or a lightsaber (which works off of Control and Sense), but usually not both.
I also don't think the GM was thinking about the effects of taking away the equipment. In fact, it really sounds like the opening scene was to railroad the players into the adventure module Starfall (where the adventurers have to escape a Star Destroyer). I would also suspect the adventurers then went on to play Crisis on Cloud CIty, where you meet Lando...
