So... if the players are the stars, then somewhere out there is a horror story waiting to be told where the GM said "I'm the GM and I am the Universe, you are the players and you are the stars." *ogles the girl gamer* "Can I see your heavenly body?"

"The players are the stars... the GM is the galaxy." Stu Venable: Is this the next HJ T-shirt? I'd buy. In regards to comments by tyler: 1. In regards to Jonas the GM worrying about being a player, Taylor said "Make the character a schemer". GENIUS advice. Definitely make a character which mimics those personality quirks you know you will possess yourself. Don't like fantasy games but your group wants to play that for a few sessions... great! Be the atheist, the one who doesn't believe in magic (no matter how obvious it is in front of you), the one who is from the future and found himself one day in fantasy land, etc. 2. "Dungeon World wouldn't work for a campaign." How could you be sooooo wrong. :-) I'm not caring if you guys play (I'm not that guy) but goddamn we've had such an awesome campaign with it this year, and advancement actually feels very fluid in that system, very choose-your-own class (instead of skills mechanically just fall in your lap).

Maybe it's the fact that I've only played it once, and that was a brief game run by a plague infected Hyvemind, but the system didn't feel like a long term thing. I like sitting down with D&D or Pathfinder and being able to look at all the cool shit I'll get down the line. Maybe I just don't know it well enough to be an effective judge. I might pick it up this weekend and give it a thorough read through.

God DAMN it. Who the fuck wrote in about [redacted]?Nah, you totally get mechanical advancements in The Game That Shall Not Be Mentioned tyler. Every time you level up (by spending 7+your current level in XP), you get a new move. Which is essentially all the stuff you'd get when levelling up in D&D 3.5 rolled into one neat little package. I might be coming back to the LA are in March, and come hell or high water, I will stand outside Stu Venable's house until he invites me in to run a game.

Oh my, missed Kurt's mail the first time I listened (on the G+) but that Castle Panic board game for the battle simulation is great. I've been thinking that if you want a sandbox-y fantasy game, you could use something like Smallworld (board game) to setup the races and the sequence of events in their rise and fall over the first few centuries... this informs the history of the world, and could make some interesting racial and cultural backgrounds. I always thought that The Quiet Year would work well as a setup for an apocalypse themed game. It could inform the history that the PCs know about, or more personally could inform the community the PCs come from. I have 2 copies of Crossbows and Catapults I've picked up at thrift stores, and that could be a fun physical mechanic to use in a game... see this awesome site: zenseeker.net/BoardGames/BoardGames-CatapultGames.htm. You could even use it to setup the initial mass combat (see how many plastic minis the PCs can knock down) and that informs how many more enemies are there to charge them in the real RPG system's combat. What else?

Oddly, Gnome Druids work very well if you make them sound Yiddish...

Gnome Druids also are really strong from a Crunch perspective in 3.5\Pathfinder because you can ride anything larger than you ( allowing you to Ride medium sized animals ) letting you take mounted combat feats, couple level dips into charger\cavelier or something and you got yourself a munchkin!

Yea, i would have to agree with tomes and HyveMynd in regards to longterm play, tyler. I'm also pretty sure i know a few designers that published campaigns for [REDACTED]. Also, look at the back of any character sheet and you can see the advancement possibilities.

Also, look at the back of any character sheet and you can see the advancement possibilities. But, what if your like me and hopelessly crippled by my dependence on systems with large 21-row tables? HOW ELSE DO I KNOW WHAT LEVEL I AM, ITS MADNESS I TELL YOU! MADNESS!

...that was a brief game run by a plague infected Hyvemind I blame HyveMynd!!! Yeah, that was not the best example of my GMing skills or presentation of the system. I really only remember bits and pieces of that game.
