Pretty self explanatory based on the thread title. I'm looking for ways to defeat a Chaos TItan. My players have stumbled onto the crypt/temple of the Chaos Titan, and discovered that several of it's giant worshipers have survived and are trying to raise their lord again. If this thing wakes up, it'll be real bad news. Maybe not Armageddon bad, but bad.
My players, of which there are only two, didn't expect to face something so big so fast. They're a bit overwhelmed, as they can't see a way to stop this thing. They told me the problem seems to big to handle, and so they're losing interest a bit. They could just high tail it out of the country (an option I made them aware of), but they intend to stay. They did say I need to drop some breadcrumbs though. A few clues about how they're meant to stop this massive event.
So, Jackers, what do they need to do to stop this thing?

To counter Chaos, one uses Order.
They must locate the Seven Keys of Ventoozler, which when combined shall seal the Chaos Titan in mystical walls of logic and law. The first six Keys create the walls of the prison, forming a perfect cube. The seventh Key locks the prison for another 7,777 years.

SOMETHING STIRRED ME FROM MY SLUMBER AND I KNEW I WAS NEEDED!! I'm getting my coffee, gimme a few minutes to turn this into legitimate sentences! OOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooh Now that I have my coffee and I've reread your post it's clear you don't mean Chaos Titans. The giant sized mechs just absolutely covered in firepower strong enough to literally melt a city, oh, and don't forget the deamon bound into it to replace the AI and machine spirit. (smallest titan The Warhound Type is estimated to average like 50' tall at it's shoulder.) Chaos Titan as in the older-brother of the Giants, as in the humanoid biological dudes from the Outer Planes. These things are very different. I am now re-thinking everything I thought up lol

The PC's discover an artefact designed to counter The Chaos Titan: when they use it the Titan laughs and spends the however long laying waste to all around - including the PC's. EXCEPT, at the moment of the PC's demise they wake up lying next to the artefact: which is intact a self contained micro universe in which the Chaos Titan can do its worst without realising that it has, in fact, been trapped, again . . . (Courtesy Morrison, MacCarthy and Yeowell - 'Zenith phase IV') That's some good shit! And of course although that traps the Chaos Titan, it doesn't trap its minions, who may not be too happy about this outcome. Wonder who they'll try to extract their vengeance on? And of course another arc is stopping the Chaos cultists from learning how to release the beast again (or ignoring them in which case when he gets out, he'll be looking straight for the PCs)

They told me the problem seems to big to handle, and so they're losing interest a bit. If they're feeling overwhelmed then one of the things I would be tempted to do is just remind them that they don't actually need to defeat the actual Titan at this point, just it's followers who are likely a much smaller threat and therefore easier to deal with. If needs be going murder hobo is a valid approach to dealing with the mortal followers of a godlike threat.

As my friends like to say, you don't have to smash the whole car to break it, just cut\unplug the weakest link and you got yourself a broken car! They have used this theory to take down many a villain. If the Chaos Titan needs a certain relic to be "awakened" then steal it or break it! Does the ritual need a certain kind of stone to build the statue\altar\thingy? Then harass the quarrys and supply lines! Are the cultists holed up in some mountain fastness? Wait em out, some magic and some simple materials and you've sealed their front door (I'm looking at you stone-to-mud + mud-to-stone!) and see how long they can last without any supplies coming in and out, this is assuming they PCs have done something about the backdoor, cus they gotta have a 2nd entrance lol.
I don't have anything specific but find out the "keystone"~esque requirements to waken the Chaos Titan, then have the PCs try to systematically ruin their plans. Not trying to kill the Titan or anything just trying to keep him from being ressurected.
Pathfinder has an adventure path I almost finished called "The Legacy of Fire", the overarching plot is that an Ifrit is trying to re-awaken a spawn of Rovagug called The Firebleeder (basically think a fire-themed Tarrasque). The whole AP is built around discovering that, then stopping it from happening at all. They have the stats for the fight in the last and final chapter, but it's considered a "failure" to allow him to be summoned\awakened in the first place. The PCs are not expected to survive that fight.

AHAHAHAHAHA CRY FOR THE HAVOCS AND LET LOOSE THE HELL-HOUNDS OF WAR!!* *Havocs are the hvy weapon teams of Chaos Marines & Hell Hounds is pretty straight forward. Now that I have my coffee and I've reread your post it's clear you don't mean Chaos Titans. The giant sized mechs just absolutely covered in firepower strong enough to literally melt a city, oh, and don't forget the deamon bound into it to replace the AI and machine spirit. (smallest titan The Warhound Type is estimated to average like 50' tall at it's shoulder.) Well, it could be a Warhammer 40,000 Chaos Titan. That'd be pretty cool. "Chaos claims the unwary or the incomplete. A true man may flinch away its embrace, if he is stalwart, and he girds his soul with the armour of contempt." ~ Imperial Inquisitor RavenorWhen talking about a Chaos Titan, it's important to remember you are dealing with an incredibly powerful being who wants nothing more than to bathe in the blood of the planet and sing dirges of pain to the souls of the innocent as they are culled for it's unholy masters in The Warp. It is not just a machine. "Tull stopped laughing and stared into Loken’s face. His blue eyes were terribly cold and hard. ‘Kaos is the damnation of all mankind, Loken. Kaos will outlive us and dance on our ashes. All we can do, all we can strive for, is to recognise its menace and keep it at bay, for as long as we persist." ~ General Commander Tull (of the now extinct Interex). The Chaos Titan in question could be of a few "classifications" or whatever, but might I suggest The Warlord Titan. Clocking in at nearly 300-400ft this mad god of destruction could be mistaken for a massive tower or castle due to its size. (all measurements are approximates and open to nerd-rage over. Some people say they are like 100 feet tall, I tend to disagree on the taller ones, the medium sized ones I like to think they are atleast as big as like Gipsy Danger or Cherno Alpha [Pacific Rim].) The books describe the larger titans as having full detachments of soldiers garrisoned inside.
Each arm is a weapon of mass destruction, lets go with The Volcano Cannon, a laser weapon which focuses the energy with red crystals infused with the dying energy of a vast number of pyskers, nice. Noted to be able to completely destroy targets up to other (smalleR) titans, and small-to-medium sized cities. For the other arm why not a Gatling Blaster a cyclic 150MM cannon capable of sustained automatic fire. 150mm explosive shells do alot of damage, especially when fired at thousands of rounds per minute. A truly devestating weapon for sweeping sustained barrages. Including the meters thick armored plating it would be an unstoppable force upon the battlefield, but, like a game show THAT'S NOT ALL!! The Warlord Titan has 2 more, larger, weapons upon it's shoulder. The only recorded class of titan larger is the Emperor Titan, which has 6 shoulder\top weapon mounts and larger weapons on the arms. It is typically controlled by a small army of mechanics and such but the Chaos Titans are beyond that. With intelligent evil, bloodthirsty greater daemons having fully replaced the AI and Crew a possessed Chaos Titan is almost a living thing, with the ability to self repair and create its own ammunition. The reason I go through this is that the cult, army, society, whatever that is trying to awaken The Chaos Titan as their god? Yea, they've pretty much got the right idea, once it turns on and the generators power up, it will be nigh unstoppable except from an orbital attack. What this means is that your party basically HAS to stop the Titan from waking up, if it turns on, that's their lose condition basically. After that (except for a few outside cases) it's going to be just seeing how badly they can piss it off before the Chaos Titan decides it's had enough time resting, and fires any of it's weapons nearby. The Gatling Blaster on smaller class Titans is noted to be able to instantly deafen anyone within like 200 yards of it when it fires, the Battlehorn\Loudspeakers are loud enough to do the same but at a larger distance, and the Chaos Titans can use these to drive people insane as well with daemon-speak-bruha. To defeat The Chaos Titan requires a few things Option 1 ) stop it from being woken up in the first place, win the game, sleep happy knowing the global population won't be culled. Option 2 ) Offer yourself as a slave to The Chaos Titan in the hopes it accepts your offer, try to kill it with good service in it's name so you aren't literally fed to daemons. Option 3) Get inside the Chaos Titan and overload it's plasma generator, "dropping the magnet" (I think they called it in The Expanse Series(?)) and self destruct the titan basically. Option 4) Banish the greater Daemon possessing\controlling The Chaos Titan, rendering the Chaos Titan inert, until someone figures out how to control it. Option 5) Overwhelming firepower, nothing in a classic DND setting would be powerful enough to do this as far as I know. Closest thing would be a sphere of anhilation, and even then it would be like erasing a massive picture with a little eraser. Eventually you would "cut" enough of the Chaos Titans structure down but it would be slow work. Void Shields will block anything attacking it at range, its own magik would be able to counter\block attacks as they come, as well as driving people insane, and should be able to summon "loyal" daemons to its own aid from within it's body. TL;DR: f the Chaos Titan awakes, time to go hang out somewhere in another plane, assuming no one 9th level Gates The Chaos Titan around you should be fine.

Hey to quote Stu Venable. When I GM I don't offer up solutions...I just provide problems for the PCs to solve. . Like when they want to roll up new characters again. If we're going the "classic D&D" route, remember good ol' Cthulhu is in Deities & Demigods... Lets just dig up that trusty ol' Necronomicon. Then again that Great Old One got beat by a broken bowsprit. #dissappointedgreatoldone
