I would much rather have one book with all the rules than have three, and have to guess whether or not I need to see if a rule has been revised or changed.

If you want improvements those are the things you have to put up with. If you'd rather have complete you will have a system that doesn't grow or improve aka the completed v20. It's a trade off, but I'd personally take NWoD despite its complexity any day. I suppose if you only wanted to run a one shot or were not invested in the system than it would be nicer to have V20 than be trying to go through the complexity of NWoD. So like everything it comes down to what you want (quality or ease of use in this case).

If you'd rather have complete you will have a system that doesn't grow or improve aka the completed v20. Hmm. You mean except for The V20 Companion, Hunters Hunted II, Anarchs Unbound, and Rites of the Blood, at least.

My intention was to originally run a Requiem game, but in this age of PDFs, there's no excuse to have such a hot mess of a core rules system. It would not take very long to incorporate the changes from GMC into the core WoD book and publish an update. It's not like they have a warehouse full of printed books they'd be stuck with. Yet, there sits the core rule book -- eleven years old with no update in sight.
I would have preferred playing NWoD. In my opinion the nWoD core rule book is one of the best examples of how to present game mechanics in a concise, easy-to-learn way. AND I own several of the setting books (Vampire 2nd, Changeling, Mage, Werewolf, Promethean).
And V20 is NOT organized very well at all, but it's all in one place. I don't have to read a rule and then flip over to another book to find out if what I just read has been revised or not.
If you're going to go with a core book/setting books model, you HAVE to maintain your core book. Pinnacle (as much as I poke Savage Worlds fans) had done an excellent job of this.

I'm surprised no enterprising fan hasn't done this, the same way other rulebook amalgamations have been done.

I started putting Post It notes in the core book so I would know to check God Machine. The I asked myself, "what am I doing!?" And I grabbed V20 and started reading it.
I'll probably use the nWoD books when I need to come up with other, non-Vampiric bad guys. The systems are similar enough, I think.

As I understand it, nWoD werewolves aren't quite the deathmachines oWoD ones are.

You know, I mean, you *could* run VtR 2e without any other books. There's just... you'd have to apply handwavium to a bunch of stuff. But I'm pretty sure it could be done. Stu Venable, there's a whole chapter of the V20 book (Ch 9, The Others) that has most of the other supernaturals (werewolves, mages, etc.) expressed using V20 terms. When I reveal the big bad guy of LA by Fire as a black spiral dancer nephandi, I'll be using those stats. ...oh, I shouldn't have said that.

And 4e coming. Totally dead system. Not sure how you get more dead than announced new version. It's a replacement, a new edition. It's not just an update to lore, or it wouldn't be a new edition. as for all those other supplements, do they change the core rules? If not than you still only need the main book. It's not the same as needing GMC and the core book from NWOD.
