OneNote on my Surface Pro 3. Unbeatable for me.

Yeah... another for the overcrowded OneNote bandwagon here.
Just started using it about two months ago when I got my Surface 3. I can't imagine ever going back to pen and paper at this point. I now have two Campaign Bibles for the two games I'm running which include plot hooks, events, places, NPCs, PCs, Organizations and Lore (Commonly held beliefs, mythologies, cultural notes, history, etc).
All of it organized, enhanced with images and hyperlinked from here to next Tuesday. It's a thing of beauty. I just need to figure out how to share what I want with my players without revealing any behind the scenes content.
I'm a fan.

I just need to figure out how to share what I want with my players without revealing any behind the scenes content. OneNote is excellent, no question. But there is another option that will also allow you to share secret info with all (or individual) players. I recently drank the Koolaid and fully embraced the awesomeness that is Obsidian Portal. In addition to all of the wiki linkage goodness, it also features character pages, campaign maps, an Adventure Log, and GM secrets on every single page. For free. I dropped the $40 to upgrade my OP account, which now allows me to include a campaign forum between myself and all players, additional maps, page customization, and a calendar for scheduling game sessions. Those are all really nice, but what sold me on the upgrade was the added ability to share secrets with individual players. I discovered this campaign-management tool was something I've wanted for decades, but didn't realize until I had it. I'm fantastically happy with the organization of my current campaign; I wish I'd had something like this years ago. Your mileage may vary, of course. A $40 subscription isn't worth jack shit if your players won't use the site.

I had an ascendant account at Obsidian Portal for a while.
My problem with it is that it's not very intuitive to use. It's not easy to make links between pages and you can't link pages that don't exist yet.
So it gets rather time-consuming.
Maybe they've fixed this stuff or I never learned how to use it properly.

I kickstarter this thing, which is now purchaseable: www.letterforms.org/It's a dry-erase notebook that is full of white-boards, effectively. It works really well. You can write on it and close it and no smudges. It also came with 2 pages of graph paper. The little pen has a little stub eraser on the end which is a little white board eraser, that works well. Basically it's a reusable notebook. If you want to save what you wrote down, you just take a picture of it (or scan it) and then erase and re-use. I add this here because you mentioned manual notebooks up front.

I had an ascendant account at Obsidian Portal for a while. My problem with it is that it's not very intuitive to use. It's not easy to make links between pages and you can't link pages that don't exist yet. Actually you can. Or you could, anyway -- it has been yonks since I actually updated my Wiki; after the reforging and various issues that followed, I fell away from it mostly myself, as I found it to be even harder and less intuitive to figure out formatting after the refroge. (I do still love the NPC directory function, though.) But anyway, linking to a non-existent wiki page is super easy. You just use the double brackets to enclose whatever name you want to give the nonexistent page. That creates the link. Example: I am working on a page that talks about the local community and want to create a link to a nonexistent page that I will create at some point in the future about the annual beer festival. I would type: [[beerfest]] If I want the link to display different text, I would add a pipe and that display text before the double closing brackets: [[beerfest | the Annual Drinkathon]] When I save the general summary page about the local community, there will be a link from the text "the Annual Drinkathon." Clicking on that link then opens up a placeholder page with an option to create the actual page about said festival. They fixed some things and fucked up others, and are a mixed bag example of a Kickstarter that made big promises it never (or only partly) delivered.

I only recently became an Ascendant (paid) member; I know there were all kinds of problems with the KS fulfillment, and it's a safe bet that this is why the site was recently sold. The new ownership is trying to put together the pieces and make the site better than it was, and I think it's succeeded for the most part. Image storage limits are WAY bigger, and they're working to add more of the promised features. They still kinda suck at communicating with the user community, but (apparently) not nearly as badly as they used to.

I fell off from it following the reforge, but maybe I'll have to wander my way back.

I tried obsidian portal for awhile but found it more limiting, more needlessly complex, and more expensive (if your ascendant or whatever) than just installing Wordpress on a sub domain of the website I already have for work.

My current notebook isn't even Moleskin (unfortunately), just a $2 notebook from walmart. (may have been 5 bucks, I don't know, don't remember. Just remember it was super cheap compared to moleskin.)

Speaking of OneNote and links...is there a way to set up an internal link? Say on one page where an NPC is listed, his name can be linked to his whole entry? I know there's the search function, just wondering about an internal link.
edit: I think I found it, just a simple [[x]] (where x is the name of a page) links to the page. My iPad with its busted screen is acting up, so I can't test it right now.
