HI there, Today we finished test running the ME2 game in SW, It's happening after ME2 and before ME3 (we hope we don't break the lore of the games). The group is a commando team sent to look for Reapers and report back to the alliance. We have all the types of characters that are on the ME games (race and career). The game works great, we had 4 combats and it was 3.5 hours which is ok since it's a first time game in a con here, and we have two more combats in store just in case. The game looks it'll be ok in the con.
But i have a question maybe some of u can help me, in ME2 there are puzzles for doors (the connecting the dots puzzle) and i want to do one of these puzzles in the game, is there any way to do it and for it to look cool and appealing to the players.
Thanks

Unfortunately, something like the ME2 puzzles pretty much only work in that kind of a video game interface. The closest you'd be able to simulate it is really doing some kind of hacking-related roll (I think one source book lets you do "smartpicking" as a skill instead of lockpicking, for high-tech settings) and tossing in some Mass Effect sound effects. Otherwise, unless you're a programmer and you can program a random die roller to match along a visual interface for bypassing, that's probably your best bet. Yes this reply is 11 days late, I've been busy.

the way I see it, the puzzles on the doors are kind of like playing the memory flash cards. You could buy a few sheets of card stock, print out electronic symbols on them, cut them into cards, and have people turn them over if you wanted. You could make a PCB-looking tray out of one of those IKEA breakfast trays, and put the cards on that. Then, all your players would have to do is turn over the cards and get pairs without making more than x number of mistakes or within a time frame. You'd need a stopwatch to have the right timeframe though.

Sorry I don't really have any good suggestions on what your looking for. But I do have a semi off-topic question: How did you handle the bionics? Assuming you used the Savage Worlds Arcane Powers..how did they work?

Depending on how they try to manipulate it (erring on the side of the pc's) I would give bonuses to whatever die roll came up. Might be a straight smarts roll might be a lockpicking roll or I might come up with something else off the cuff. Although the programming that you mention would not be at all difficult. Cheers, JiB
