I've just come into a little cash and I'd like to get the current/best edition of the SW rules, what do you all suggest?
My current group plays mostly D&D 4e, but I've gotten them to take a couple of trips into Call of Cthulhu and some of us like the idea of Mouse Gaurd, but I'm not sure the rules will work with many in the group...

I'm sure there are other diehard Savage Worlds fans on these boards that can give you better advice. *cough* *cough* JiB *cough* I think there are two ways you can go here.
You could get the Savage Worlds Explorers Edition (it's OOP but might still be available on DriveThruRPG) which is an older edition of the rules but cheaper. I think it's still only $10. Pinnacle was also nice enough to provide all the rules updates available as downloads on their site. Or you could buy the newest version of the rules, Savage Worlds Deluxe which is a bit more expensive at $20.
If you like the rules and don't mind collecting RPG books, I'd go with SW Deluxe, as it's the most current version of the rules. But if you just want to try the rules and aren't sure how much your players will like the system, maybe the lesser investment of the Explorer's Edition is a better option.

I keep hearing about Explorers Edition to the point that I had no idea it was an older edition...
I'm a big fan of DriveThruRPG and RPGNow, so there's a good chance I'll pick up the PDF, but I have a distinct mistrust of technology and LOVE real books... So I'll probably drop the cash for a hard copy of Deluxe - I need to double check with Compleat Strategist in NYC to see if they have it on the shelf; which will be far more entertaining than anything my boss has for me to do tomorrow...

If you have the cash, I would go for deluxe. The rule differences are not huge, but the deluxe book is really nice. If you aren't in a hurry you could wait for the softcover version (of the Deluxe) to be printed. (Similar to what they've recently done with the Deadlands books). I can't find details right now since I'm at work and the IT department blocks such sites.

Addendum ... If you get the Explorer's Edition the changes between that and Deluxe are available from Pinnacle on the downloads page at peginc.com/downloads.htmlCheers, JiB

Thanks all!!
I'm going to try to get a hard copy of Deluxe this weekend...
I think I've already downloaded just about everything they have on the Pinnacle site... Does anyone know how often they update with new stuff?

Does anyone know how often they update with new stuff? The generic answer to that is, fairly often. What in particular were you looking for? JiB

JiB,
I'm a data hoarder. I have a 16GB flash drive almost completely full of PDFs from various game systems - most of which I'll never play and some I played way back when and now realize they only "don't suck" if you've never had $ex...
I NEED to know I have EVERYTHING, or I can't sleep at night... :-(

I not only keep the pdf's I keep the zips that they came in and keep everything nice and tidy and organized. Yeah yeah yeah I'm a nerd I know it. I revel in my nerditude. JiB

One thing to note: the Deluxe edition besides the rules changes, does include a few subsystems that are not included as free downloads for the Explorers Edition: Social Conflicts, Travel Encounters, Dramatic Tasks. Not to mention Setting Rules and Archetypes ( which for a new player/GM to the system is a really nice set of editions ) which help customize the feel of the system to your play style.

INTERLUDES !!!!
One of my favorite moments of Gateway Con back in September was Friday night, I'm running my SW horror game, "Surgeon" and I turned to Grey Mouser and said, so while we're taking this cab across London tell us why you think you've been brought in to help with this." He start to tell us, got about 10 words into it and looked at me and said, "God damnit you interluded me."

OK, I have Deluxe in hand and I totally see what everyone sees in this game!!!
The rulesset leaves a ton of leeway, but seems to cover all of the bases...
I hope my 4e group doesn't mind taking a few sidetreks!
