So, I'm finally settled in Salem, MA, USA. I have a huge Victorian house with plenty of space for gaming, the problem is, I don't know anyone locally. Like many of us, I'm an introvert in social settings, however I do warm up and become more extroverted after some time. I've seen a couple of guys at the T station who were wearing the red & shirt that was in the fantasy woot crate last spring. But I haven't approached them at all as I see them only at the train station in a large crowd. I have also visited the local comic shop which does Encounters and has a bi-weekly Saturday pathfinder game, but I was warned by an employee that it's crowded.
What I'm asking is for is some suggestions on how to go about finding people. I have posted on the ENWorld find a gamer board, as well as PenandPaper.com, but no bites yet.
So... Any ideas?

I looked at meetup, but I'd feel like I was poaching, I don't intend to game at public locations due to some family issues. I'm looking primarily for people to come to my house. (after being vetted of course) But good suggestion none-the-less.

I just got invited into a group arounds here, and they use meetup, however the meetup has a questionnaire you have to fill out, and one of the questions is your phone number, from which they will call you back and even perform an interview. Sounds a little nutty at first, but if you think about it, this is perfect way to go about it. No random stranger will just throw this information at you, and this would be exactly what I'd require to start asking someone to come over to my place. I'm not sure if this costs money, as I know meetups can require some sort of subscription under certain circumstances (?) As far as meeting people, another option is posting papers at the game shops. I know our local FLGS have bulletin boards for just such a purpose.

I met my gaming friends through meetup, and it helps that we usually have an annual meetup at a bar/eatery to meet people before inviting straight to houses without knowing anything.
