Well, with even more life stuff getting in the way it looks like I'm not running my supers game again until mid-November. Because of this I've been bouncing a few ideas around in my brain pan and I wanted to run one by you guys.
Caveat: I have never read a single word of Traveller canon material that's not in the core book.
Stu has mentioned multiple times on the show the concept of a "Generation Ship". This concept intrigues me. My thought for a future campaign is that the entire party is on one of these ships, probably second or third generation. I see it as more of a Battlestar Galactica type thing though. Only without Cylons. Humans fucked up good ole Earth so bad that they had to leave it. They'd explored the systems nearby many years previously and they were all already overpopulated. So they go looking for new worlds to inhabit. The big ship can jump, but it has a short range and it takes a huge toll on the old girl. So she can only jump about once a month. During the downtime there are scout crews on smaller vessels who jump out looking for a promising direction for a final destination, food, water, or other resources. Aboard a generation ship, damn near everyone takes a term serving in the scout crews. Unless of course, someone buys their way out of it by paying someone else to take their term. There are quite a few scouts who become Lifers because of how lucrative it can be.
For me, this does a few things.
-it creates its own adventure(constantly exploring means I don't have to prod them to do things)
-Lets me create new races and creatures and threats akin to Star Wars or Star Trek
-Keeps things fresh.(makes it episodic so my players don't get bored with the story)
-Gives me an end objective(New Earth!)
Thoughts?
