Currently playing in a game of Warhammer fantasy v2, its a D100 system and i really like the system and how progression works.
Im looking running a game next, however i dont know the setting aswell as others in the game and prefer a higher magic setting. my problem is that the system itself is so tied into the setting, particularly how magic works and all the rules skills etc regarding chaos, limited races etc.
does anybody know of anything that anybody has made for adapting the system to generic fantasy? what other d100 system would you recommend preferably with career progression done in a similar way.

A d100 fantasy system that isn't as crazyballs as WH :-) Pretty sure it's skill advancement is on a use basis too. It just has lots of editions. 6th is the latest, and due to licencing issues that has been re-branded as Mythras. Here it is on drivethru: www.drivethrurpg.com/m/product/191475

6th Ed./Mythras is an excellent system, dialable for high or low magic or anywhere in between. But it's not the same d100 system as WFRP second edition. There is an OSR version of WFRG, called Zweihander, but I don't know how flexible it's magic is.

It's not D100, but you might want to check out The One Ring. While it doesn't have careers, it has cultures and callings. As far as magic goes, it has less (read: almost no) casting of spells. What it does have is lots of more subtle magic. The line between folklore and magic blurs heavily. What is magic if not the use of forgotten lores? Is being able to talk to the trees magic, or just something that men have forgotten how to do?
At any rate, many people know the setting (based on The Hobbit/other tolkien works) and it maintains the gritty feeling of warhammer (blighted lands, men being lured into madness by the shadow, etc). Right now The One Ring is up on the Bundle of Holding, so it is a good time to pick the books up cheaply.

Picked up Mythras last night and have skimmed it (it came with free pdf). so far it looks like a great skeleton system, lots of setting stuff GM needs to clarify. the careers seem more like classes than wfrp careers. (post character creation you progress within that career.) no default feat/talent like abilities, i feel this is an easy way to flesh out a PC's specialty or individuality. i will likely work on my setting and campaign rules on the forum somewhere, so keep an eye out.

you can run a not so balls crazy Fantasy Homebrew using the Savage Worlds Core Rulebook. for only $10.00 and most of the settings or companions are about 15-30 dollars apiece or in other words, cheaper than what you pay for most other systems. plus, because Savage Worlds leaves the description up to the players, it is a more narrative system that is also quite intuitive to learn and has a variety of dials. thing is, it doesn't quite repeat sections so you actually have to hunt.
but most of the stuff you can hunt is fairly simple. another good series of relatively simple systems you can use are Cypher/Numenara, which is discovery and exploration based, Dungeon World which only ever needs 2d6 plus 1 other die that varies with your class, Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, which combines the better aspects of each of its 4 prior editions, or Dungeon Crawl Classics, which is a simple RNG based system involving lots of funnels.
in fact, a great thing i liked about Gygaxian Fantasy, was the character funneling process, not because it killed characters left and right, but because it let you play multiple characters per player and got all your concepts off your chest at once. meaning yes, if you had 4-6 different character concepts you were really indecisive about, a Gygaxian RPG would allow you to try them all at least briefly.

Ive now got mythras (runequest 6)
I like how adaptable the system is for porting it into my setting, some of the rules may be slightly too complex than i want, so ill adapt them.
But what im wondering is at what point am i technically creating a new system for my setting. Being that mythras uses allot of common rules and is a barebones system.

If you like Mythras but it is too complex, check out OpenQuest by D101 games. You'll thank me.

Would probably houserule so you can choose one that is applicable and you just need a success. Under special effects page 95. I may have been reading it wrong. And its not complex just really barebones, which is what i want but time consuming.
