I was thinking about picking up Pandemic, as I've seen it around and thought it looked like fun. Now that I've heard someone who's actually play it give it a recommendation, I know what a portion of my next paycheck will be going towards!

I love cooperative games, and Pandemic is definitely one of the best. I should put up a review of it sometime. If you are interested in other board games check out my reviews here: www.youtube.com/user/SirGuido I plan to post some more reviews soon.

The only cooperative board game that I've played is Arkham Horror, and I just can't get enough of it. I really like the concept. I've subscribed to your channel, and will be shortly be working my way through your reviews once I think I can get away with it without being caught at work! Thanks!

Shadows Over Camelot is another great cooperative boardgame. I will echo that Arkham Horror and Pandemic are both great games.

Pandemic is cool, but the premise of it just stresses me out!
A similar game to Pandemic (mechanically) with a whole separate feel/premise is Forbidden Island. Same game, but instead of curing diseases before they wipe out the world, it's trying to get ancient treasures before the island sinks.

Forbidden Island is indeed fun as well. I haven't played Shadows Over Camelot... yet. My FLGS has a store copy, but no one knows how to play it so it just keeps sitting there. A semi-cooperative game that is aMAYzing, is Battlestar Galactica. I am in love with that game. Its practically 5 games in one. You have a "spy in your midst" element, a resource management element, a combat element, a press your luck element, and a worker placement element.

Shadows Over Camelot has pretty much all of those elements as well. One of the coolest features is the "Traitor" — at the beginning of the game, players (up to 7) pull one card from 9 or 10. One of those cards designates a player as "Traitor" but there is a decent chance that no one will pull the Traitor.

I think Pandemic's a great game, and is really good for getting non-gamers involved. It's cooperative (all players vs. the game) and is pretty easy to explain. "Have you seen the movie Outbreak? Yeah? Well, this is the game. We gotta save the world from disease." The one problem I have with it, is that it feels pretty shitty when you lose. Which can be damn often.
Arkham Horror is another cooperative game that I love, and I've got a shit ton of the expansions. I've had mixed success with it in my group, however. The mechanics don't really tie to the theme of the game, and it can very easily turn into just a dice rolling exercise. There is also a lot of randomness to it, which some people don't like. Move here, draw a card and do what it says, maybe have an encounter and roll some dice. Wash, rinse, and repeat. I love it, but that's because I have all the H.P. Lovecraft stories floating in my head to give it some context.
Battlestar Galactica is, indeed aMAYzing! Playing that game got me to watch the (new) series. I really can't recommend it enough. Play it with your close friends though, because you WILL be accusing people of being a frakkin' toaster right from turn one. Things can get pretty heated, or at least they did in our group. Heh. The first game we played, one player, who happened to be the Admiral at the time, asked "What happens if the same person becomes both the Admiral and the President?" To which everyone else started yelling "Cylon! Cylon! He's a freaking Cylon!" and chucked him into the brig. Good times.
Similar to BSG , and another good cooperative game for non-gamers is (the newer Fantasy Flight Game version) Fury of Dracula. One person plays Dracula and the other four players are the hunters from the Bram Stoker novel. Dracula uses a card mechanic to secretly move around a map of Europe, leaving traps and vampire spawn behind, while the hunters work together to deduce where he is and kill him while destroying any other vampires they find. It's great, but can be really short of the Dracula player doesn't know what he's doing.
I have the honor of being the absolute WORST Dracula player ever. I got cornered by Mina Harper early one game and I thought "What the hell? I'm Dracula. I can totally kick her ass. Let's do this!" She then proceeded to beat the unliving fuck out of me, ending the game in about 30 minutes. Bah.

We played Fury of Dracula, and it was fun. What made it weird, though, was that the end of our game largely matched the end of the actual novel! Dracula was rushing back home via boat, and everyone was chasing him on the railways, for a final showdown in his castle. Except, in our version, I think, Dracula won. --Pukka Tukka
