Wow, what a fun convention.
I arrived at 8:00 AM or so on Saturday, got my badge, and lounged around for a while. Ran into jazzisblues and plusx2a (who had printed me a special "Probie Tim" badge and gave me a set of Orccon dice, both of which were totally rad and proves why he really is +10 to Awesome).
Around 9:00ish I met up with cadave and Bill Roper (who gave me one of his Star Wars Traveller books, which netted him a huge bonus to his Awesome score as well) and headed down to Games on Demand where tomes, kurtpotts (and his lovely wife and awesome son), Stu Venable, and a few others were at. I hopped into a Swords & Wizardry game that Stu Venable ran for the kid collective (his kids, the Potts-child, and me!) and had good fun with that. Zach played the murderhobo-ey-ist pyromaniac assassin I've ever seen, Ally was the most aloof druid I've ever seen, and the Potts-child was one of the most on-point magic-users I've ever seen. I played a monk... evidently the worst monk ever, judging by my combat rolls. It was good fun.
Had lunch with weaselcreature and his wife (whose forum name I don't know and can't find). We chatted about BRP and failing sandwiches. Good times.
The afternoon brought my own Swords & Wizardry game. I had three (it seemed) "professional" dungeon crawlers (one of whom had Stork-level rolling "abilities" which prompted the other two to throw his dice down the hallway; fair warning, no matter how badly I roll, if someone grabs my dice and hucks them down a hallway they're walking away with a broken arm, heh), one Air Force airman whose parents were playing in Kimi's game one table over, and mysticfedora and his son. The game was very fun but it was an interesting dynamic; the three "pro's" were in full hack-and-slash mode and got a little frustrated when the game would slow down to allow explanations for the kid, or the kid's role-playing.
As a quick aside, that kid was awesome. He played a thief who he decided was a comedian and RPed more than any of the other players... except maybe his dad. He was rad. I, uh...
I, eh...
Well, I wound up killing his character in combat. Luckily the cleric got to him before the end of the round and hit him with a Cure Light Wounds. So I bent the rules (I'm the GM, I can do that) and he rejoined the fight with 2 HP.
Then I met up with a bunch of peeps (pretty much everyone mentioned above, plus stork, Monkeyfun Dave, and his wife) for dinner and drinks at the bar, and setup for the live show.
The live show was much better than the cluster-eff that was last con's show. Stu and Kimi implemented a new format which seemed to work really well, and the show was fun. I'll leave details of that to the actual show, which should show up in the feed, eh, at some point.
On my way out I ran into clanhanna in the parking lot and chatted for a bit. This is important because on Saturday morning he had laryngitis and was not feeling well. Oddly enough, I was not feeling well yesterday and had to reschedule my Swords & Wizardry Hangouts game because I didn't feel well and my voice was all scratchy. Today I feel also not awesome and my throat is still scratchy (although my voice seems fine).
YOU DID THIS TO MEEEE, KURT! YOU DID THIS!
