But what I'm afraid off is that the players will make more demands: "I don't want to play this character." "Can I change my character?" "Can you make us new characters?" What do I do if that happens? So... you want to have fun running the game, yeah? Your players want to have just as much fun playing the adventure. If the players look at the characters you've provided and ask for different ones, they're not so much making demands as they are telling you that they don't think they'll have fun with the character you provided. Which isn't a slight on you, your GMing abilities, your character creation abilities, or the game you want to run. It's just that... it takes all kinds, and what you think might be a really fun character might not be someone else's cup of tea. Again, my feedback is this: unless the characters are instrumental to the adventure and there's no way different characters will suffice (which, honestly, seems a bit of a stretch but that's not my call) let your players switch characters or roll new ones or make new ones for them. I mean, heck, if they don't like the characters, ask them what type of characters they would like and then make them yourself with their feedback as your guide, if you need to. That way the players get to play the type of character they want to play, and you can make sure that the character's stats and abilities are still within the scope of the adventure.

*staggers into the room, pale as a ghost - giggling nervously with tears running down my cheeks*
Guys! Gals!
You won't believe what happened after I sent out the characters. It's one of the funniest - but also saddest - things I've witnessed in my gm career.
This is show worthy. I must write a letter to Stu right away!

In my experience running monthly games with Pregens I hand out my response is usually: "Unfortunately these characters are tailored for story we are running today. However, you are more than welcome to add your own personal touches to the character's personality." I once put down the famous Savage Ghostbusters pregens made by Karl Keesler and a player who chose to play Ray said "I'm going to use this character as a template and make a new one for the game." Not a question, didn't ask for permission, just decided the laminated characters sheet I'd made deserved a few changes using a thin marker pen. He was a little shocked when I told him that not only were there to be no changes to the pregens but that I didn't appreciate him marking up five dollars worth of laminated work I did for the game. So yeah, set your expectations early, explain your reasoning, work with your players, have a plan to kill anyone who marks up your pregen sheets.

You might even hand them the characters with the caveat that these PCs were written with this adventure in mind, so in case anyone is thinking of modifying them, please don't.

You might not want to express differing opinions about it (even if you are nicer about it than I am). They don't take kindly to that around here any more.

jonas That's assuming I care about StevenSw's opinion. Which I don't.

You might not want to express differing opinions about it (even if you are nicer about it than I am). Really? "makes me want to buy a grave so I can roll over in it" and "are you stupid?" and "[you] are talking out your ass" are nice? That's pretty twisted, man. They don't take kindly to that around here any more. Differing opinions are awesome. But you're going to get called on telling people they're talking out of their ass or are stupid because you don't agree with their opinions.

Fuckin' hell, you just poison every goddamned thread you can manage to shit in. Almost single-handedly destroyed these boards as a place I enjoy reading.

I lurk. I try not to feed the troll. But I used to love reading and posting here, and now? One or two users have made it completely toxic, and a lot of the people I enjoyed reading have all but abandoned it. Even skipping over posts by specific users does no good, because it seems like everyone else is responding to them and the entire tone of the community has changed.
Guess I'm just a grumpy old man... but it really pisses me off. Sorry to be the piss in the Cheerios this morning.
Back to lurking and quietly bemoaning.

But totally not weird or anything. No, no, not at all. I did find the heart-shaped box of human fingers a bit... odd at first, but then realized they made a hell of a necklace.
