On Netflix there is a movie called 'Kill Command' and it's very Traveller-esque. I think I'll make an adventure based on it.
It's not a bad movie either.
What movies/TV shows on Netflix or whatever inspire you for Traveller.

I'll go out on a limb and say The Expanse.

I need to buy the Expanse. I don't have cable and SciFi is not streaming it anywhere.

The Lost Fleet could work if you like space combat.
Edit: I missed the movie/series part.

There is rumour of a reboot by the original creators Aaron Ooh. I could stand to hear more about this! # It surfaces every now and again - usually when good Sci-fi is ratings gold again . . . which seems to be happening about now, because as GoT draws to close everyone is looking for the next Battlestar/GoT genre hit series Aaron

I need to buy the Expanse. I don't have cable and SciFi is not streaming it anywhere. I recommend it. The Expanse is really great. When I first discovered it, I did some light research on it (perusing the wikipedia articles) and found that the first author of the books (it was co-written) was planning on making The Expanse into an tabletop RPG after he decided against making it an MMO. The people who live among the Asteroid Belt developed a 'Belter Creole' which inspired me to include in my own GURPS Mars campaign/setting a Martian Creole. The creole also includes gestures, which makes a lot of sense, what with Belters often being in Vacc suits (at least when they aren't in a [comparatively] nice asteroid station).

If you can find it Europa Report was a good low tech space opera.

The pilot for Oasis is up on Amazon. The tech level feels right, though there's some sort of supernatural bent that appears to be at work.
