Pirates of the Spanish Main Finale.... help!

Hey Jackkers!
I want to begin the wrap up story arch to my POTSM game... and need help.
The set up:
After a side adventure the PCs chose to take on during ship leave they find themselves stranded on a deserted island with ghost town ( a former priest who failed at starting a new community) The ship they took there is nowhere top be seen and on this day the see the familiar silhouette of their own ship. The ship has found them after 3 weeks (2 of which the ship was being careened/ hence the side job) on the island.
Previously, the Captain had told the PCs that he would inform them of their next destination after careening and if they wanted no part they would leave the crew with his blessing.
The captain:
A Danish military type, very measured, stern and short on words. His mouth piece is a very eloquent Brit. The Captian has had this ship for neigh 10 years. He seldom leaves his cabin for socialization but the crew has the utmost confidence in him as a sailor and leader. Not to say they love his personality. He also seems to never leave the ship itself and it has been learned by a voodoo practitioner on board (PC) that the ship has a spirit in the form of a Valkarye or female demon (hard to tell yet) which is somehow tied to the ship and more specifically the mast statue/ figurehead. She has appeared peacefully, malevolent, protective of the caption in various circumstances.
I want to start ending but am unsure of where to go:
Where I am at
I unintentionally blew my original plan to have the captain be searching for his wife who has been kidnapped/ lost or even dead. I just played a lost lovers/ ghost scenario on the island they are now leaving.
The Captian has been searching for something for a very long time...
The last game involved Cthulhu / Lovecraftian themes... trying to stay away from that.
There is a female spirit attached to the ship, who has a relation to the captain...
Some ideas:
Frankenstien/ Dr moreau.... Did the Captian create something he lost?
Something was taken from him... His people/ family are trapped/ imprisoned by an old foe.
"Kill a Giant" an old for or even Norse entity to fight...
The captain has been a ghost all this time and needs one item/ thing to finally rest...
