There is such a massive selection of savage worlds books and my book shelves only have so much room. So I wonder how much overlap is there in any of the books? I would imagine Solomon Kane, Pirates of the Spanish Main, and perhaps 50 Fathoms all have similar Edges/Hindrances and probably Gear. I'm sure the rest could be said about all the other genre books. There seem to be at least 3 books for every genre. Or maybe the crunch is really just covered in the Core rulebook. So if you have the time to share your thoughts on what you like I would be much obliged. If you think a book is the best for the genre and love to bring it to the table you can just say buy the book. If you like the book, but would only use it as an occasional reference or for certain rules only have to say get the PDF. If you want to go in depth that is cool too. Genre books I noticed Alt History fantasy (more or less Earth) Deadlands Totems of the Dead Solomon Kane Pirates of the Spanish Main Fantasy 50 Fathoms Evernight Sundered Skies Fantasy Companion Shaintar Hellfrost Runepunk Horror Rippers Realms of Cthulhu Horror Companion War of the Dead Pulp Slipstream Mars Space 1889 Apocalyptic Low Life Nercopolis The Day after Ragnarok Supers Necessary Evil Super Powers Companion Dawn of Legends

No one has any thoughts?
I have only picked up Solomon Kane and I like it a lot.
I think I might go with 50 Fathoms or Spanish Main next.

I would say that rather than overlapping, the various books and supplements are very complementary. It's an easy thing to take bits and pieces from all over and put them together to make the game you want. Some of them thematically don't mix (in my opinion) but from a rules standpoint and in terms of what they offer it all pretty much just works together.
Just my 2 krupplenicks worth, your mileage may of course vary.

Aren't some of these resources licensed by different publishers? Frequently, that results in different variations on the same theme, some of which likely don't cooperate very well. And sometimes publishers will have different ideas just how potent or versatile an element should be.
As it is, I've been trying to figure out what resources would best provide me with the tools to cobble together a steampunk campaign.

From another friendly gamer I got the answer that there may be a little overlap, but every book does have something that is original. Aren't some of these resources licensed by different publishers? As it is, I've been trying to figure out what resources would best provide me with the tools to cobble together a steampunk campaign. I am a Steampunk fan from a completely uninformed stand point wouldn't Sundered Skies and Slipstream be good for that? I think Sundered has Airships and if Slipstream is a cheesy Flash Gordon scifi as I hear it is you could just re-skin the fluff. Also to JiB and Orry, Do you guys have any favorite SW books? Thanks again

I thought Sundered Skies looked kinda interesting, but I haven't had a chance to really look at it. I don't know anything about Slipstream... I'll have to check it out.
I do have a copy of the Gaslight book, and it's pretty cool. It's very much a Victorian horror setting. It has some cool options in it (my daughter loves the Wildling race!) and a system for dealing with different levels of society, and I especially love the last section of the book which details a Victorian timeline with appropriate additions for the genre (such as the "Traveler" with his time machine, and the founding of the Van Helsing Institute). It also has a more abstract wealth system, rather than the bean-counting in the SW:D book.
I also bought the Rippers PDF just yesterday, seeing as another take on Victorian horror... it looks really good, too. It assumes a specific role for the characters, however, rather than being a general setting book like Gaslight.

Slipstream is 1930s Scifi, Bubble Helmets, Ray Guns, and rocket ships.
Which should be easy pick from. Ray guns are Tesla Lightning Pistols or even Death Rays. Rocket Ships could just be steam powered or just fired from cannons a la Jules Vernes From Earth to the Moon.
Gas Light sounds neat.

My favorite supplements for what I'm running right now are Thrilling Tales (1930's Pulp), the Pulp GM Toolkit and Suzerain - Noir Nights. I'm also pulling things from Wierd Wars I also really like the material in the Fantasy supplement and the Super Powers supplement. Yes it is true that some of the books are 3rd party books, but if they are approved by Pinnacle they've been vetted by their staff and they do a really good job in my experience. Sundered Skies is really interesting a buddy ran a campaign in it but I haven't played it personally. If I was going to do a steampunk game one of the things I would look at is the Space 1889 material. www.peginc.com/space-1889/ or if you prefer, here is some Googly for Savage Worlds Steampunk www.google.com/search?q=Savage+Worlds+Steampunk&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:unofficial&client=iceweasel-aCheers, JiB

Here are my thoughts Alt History fantasy (more or less Earth) Deadlands must have, western steampunk/horror light on airships, but ghost rock can accomplish a lot of things.Totems of the Dead haven't read, I'm not really into itSolomon Kane haven't read, I'm not really into itPirates of the Spanish Main I would go for 50 fathoms instead of this one, this one does have some really neat edges and fencing schoolsFantasy 50 Fathoms I would buy the new one, it's hot.Evernight eh, premise is neat, if you want to go through the plot-point campaign, get it. I lump it in with dark fantasy and I think I can do that myselfSundered Skies This one is fun, if you want airships and some interesting takes on fantasy races, I like this oneFantasy Companion excellent reference, haven't compared it overmuch to deluxe, biggest bonus here is the slew of magic items, treasure tables and beasties. Shaintar high fantasty, haven't readHellfrost fantasty, haven't readRunepunk fun,... steampunk influence,... runic magic I think is overpowered, wait for a sale? Horror Rippers victorian steampunk with zombies and vampires. the rules are getting dated. If they re-release this one I'm buying it in a second.Realms of Cthulhu Had some really neat setting rules, several made it into Savage Worlds deluxe. Introduces a sanity mechanicHorror Companion wasn't a big fan of this. playable monster races are cool... I'd rather get realms or rippers than this oneWar of the Dead haven't read. My take is this is really more a series of adventures, right?Pulp Slipstream pulpy flash gordon-y funMars if you like the John Carter specifically, it's cool, didn't really like the bookSpace 1889 I found this one very enjoyable, would love to play itApocalyptic Low Life haven't read, quirkyNercopolis flipped through, seems neatThe Day after Ragnarok fun sounding pulp hijinks, some steampunk-ish stuff with the snake oilSupers Necessary Evil get the explorers editionSuper Powers Companion same rules as the necessary evil, but without the plot point.Dawn of Legends avoid - brokenoh yeah, I'm on a pirate kick right now and just got Dreadfleet from my wife.
