I was dropping of some stuff at Goodwill this afternoon and what do I find??
A nearly brand spanking new Pathfinder rulebook sitting on a 3.5 Monster Manual!!!
I took the Pathfinder book and dropped a dollar on the counter...
The woman behind the counter was just glad I didn't want a receipt for my donation so she wuldn't have to disrupt her solitare game!

I have thought of "seeding" places with table top books on purpose. So many times I hear that someone's first introduction into RPG's was from a yard sale(mine was too), but having a yard sale is not really in the cards for me heh. So buying and donating, or dropping off books in places like Goodwill sounds really cool to me.

I'm not overly interested in 3.5/Pathfinder, I lean heavily toward 1e in my D&D interests.
Playing Warhammer 40K was the gateway to get me back in to RPGs. Several years back White Dwarf magazine was released with a Space Marine Terminator and Orc Warboy (or something)together on a small sprue shrink wrapped in the issue - THOSE were like gold!!! I bought 6 or 8 copies of that issue and dropped them EVERYwhere (dentist office, doctor office, library, work, gave them to mothers of new players, etc...)
I think it would be a little harder to drop actual ruelbooks in places where people would get the concept that they are there to be taken and used... I would think that most people would thumb thru it and put it back - which does accomplish the desired result of generically spreading the word.
I think it would be better to assemble some "Quick Start Rules" packages from photocopies and drop those...
