Stu Venable - Just in case you're not aware but this weeks episode is showing up in the Actual Play feed rather than the regular feed.

I'm about to clean the chickens out which is prime HJ listening time. I don't subscribe to the AP feed, but I'll hop across and download it.

Mitchell and Webb, not Little Britain: youtu.be/hn1VxaMEjRUI also agree with BOTH Stu Venable and stork on The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eigth Dimension. It is both the best movie ever and totally overrated. It was the best movie ever in eighty-something, when five young blokes rented the VHS from the video store (hey, remember those?) after (or before? I can't recall) an RPG session. But it is also objectively shit.

The AP/Podcast feed thing is fixed, btw.
Regarding Buckaroo:
I don’t think it’s shit. Here is my reasoning
1. Buckaroo is a total Mary Joe (or Mary Jane, or whatever), but it is SO ridiculous that it makes it a parody of itself. 2. Like any proper parody, it never gives a wink to the camera, so it’s played perfectly straight. Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal” comes to mind. Ride si Sapis. 3. Jeff Fucking Goldblum. 4. “Why me, John Bigboote.” 5. John Fucking Lithgow. 6. Christopher Fucking Lloyd. 7. Rastafuckingfarians.

It's true. At the time of Buckaroo coming out there wasn't even the term "Mary Sue" and the idea of a character that can do almost anything he puts his mind to was perfect for the setting of the movie. It's because he can do anything that the story makes any sense at all and it pushes the story forward while every teamster is following Buckaroo's lead. Every team member was a living G.I. Joe style nod to the super squad movies right down to Perfect Tommy. What's not to love?
I'm still waiting for "Buckaroo Banzai and the World Crime League".

I’m with you, Stu Venable . stork is plain wrong. Buckaroo Banzai is excellent, and gina needs to see it ASAP! My wife threw me a Buckaroo themed birthday party last year (she was Worfin, I was Buckaroo!). Still listening but there’s some good info and lots too think about so far. Why is there a watermelon there?

2nd edition D&D had an excellent book on villain creation. When I get out of work I will elaborate as to why I liked it so much.
Still listening but yeah the Joker as True Neitral? Stork you have an interesting view of alignments.

OK, Complete Book of Villains for 2nd edition D&D had a list for individuals and organizations that could be filled out when fleshing out your antagonists. For individuals it included everything from Occupation to Goals to having 3 defining traits (two dominant and one contradictory trait). Examples are given of things like traits you could use plus they create a villain to use by filling out the list.
Organizations has a list with items like "What do they deliver?" and "How do they acquire resources?"
I have found this book to be an invaluable resource for fleshing out antagonist NPCs and Organizations in any system.
It is also where I learned to keep a record of villains and have them continue to carry out their plans outside of the scope of what the players are doing. This eventually expanded to other NPCs as well.

I'm just listening now, and I got to that point and all I could think of was Hamilton shouting "You gotta be outta your god damn mind!" He's The most chaotic evil character ever created!

Adding to Stu's Buckaroo Banzai list:
The cool ending credit scene
Regarding high schoolers playing D & D wrong. Gina was probably the most correct. They need a teenage GM. It seemed like most of the suggestions was dumbing the game down or taking out rules. But we all know from experience that teens can work through crunchy complicated systems.
to me is just seemed that they needed a little reminder at the beginning of the session about how the mechanics work, then stick to your guns when those moments come.

Actually, I'd say while the Joker is evil by all regular standards, Heath Ledger's Joker pretty firmly puts him in Chaotic Neutral. He's cunning, he's selfish, he follows his whims. I always refer back to his line about being like a dog chasing a car - he has to, even though he doesn't know what he'll do when he gets it. Another good CN example I always refer back to is Daffy Duck. As they said in this good Dragon editorial once, some times he's the hero, sometimes he's the villain, but he's always one hundred percent in and on. That was how I got a GM I didn't know let me play a CN character since it seems a lot of people use it to play Chaotic Selfish. I explained my character was chaotic. He was a bully and powerful and knew one day, karma would get him. He didn't believe in going at things half-heartedly. YMMV

YMMV Yeah, but the problem with Ledger's Joker is that line is just him manipulating Harvey, he knows exactly what he would do when he got it. Blow it up and everyone inside of it. He kidnapped a bunch of people, dressed them up like the kidnappers, and taped the guns in their hands in the hopes the police would kill them, all while holding two boats full of people hostage, hoping one boat would blow the other boat up, and when they didn't he was going to blow both of them up. Plus, you know, all the people he tortured for his own amusement.
