So what do you think about this. I have played a bit of WoW but left after the second expansion. got tired of the same old thing. It turned me off to MMO's in general.
I have played Pathfinder and will give this a try. I like the idea of someone else coming into the fray.

I like the idea of a "start small, grow into the community" type game. But then I would want to be part of the "beginning" so I get the chance to meet people...
Offset by the desire to actually have people to play WITH when I am online.

I find that I have a hard time getting into MMO's in general, and a monthly fee is usually enough to turn me off completely. I played Guild Wars on and off for a while, but never got into WoW. It wasn't ever really because I didn't have the money for it ($15/mo or whatever it is isn't outrageous,) but the subscription was just the straw that broke the camel's back. It sounds like there will be a fee to play this game, so I doubt that I'll join the ranks.
Outside of that, it looks pretty neat. I really like the idea of letting players shape the world, and keeping the game exclusive is a great way to ramp up interest. On the other hand, by limiting PFO's player base, they can't take advantage of WoW's flagging popularity. It's possible (albeit unlikely) that by the time membership has opened up, the video game market no longer favors huge, pay-to-play MMO's like WoW and PFO.
tl;dr: Cool concept, probably won't play it.

Man, I dunno why MMORPGs get so much hate, but I've been on the MMORPG teat since EQ. I'm hesitant to try new ones these days, though, because I always end up back on WoW. I just created a new account over the weekend to test out my new laptop on the starter edition (level capped at 20).

Interesting, looks like they will not try to compete with the big MMOs, but rather make it the "second MMO" that you play, one that doesn't suck your soul, it may work as long as it is "free to play" or "buy once and play indefinitely", will have to wait and see though since we don't have any details about the gameplay yet.

I just read the 4 Jan blog post, and I have to say, I'm a bit more intrigued now. I REALLY like the idea of allowing multi-classing, since I feel like most MMO's I've played don't allow this (GW was an exception, but you could only take two classes, and that was the rule more than the exception.) It's cool to see that single-classed characters get a bonus that multi-classed characters don't as well, meaning that choosing whether to multi-class or not is a meaningful and significant choice.
I also like the idea that this game isn't being designed to consume your life, like taronicos said. Their proposed hybrid subscription plan is interesting; it seems like subscriptions are becoming less popular and systems involving micro-transactions are popping up more and more. Price points and content restrictions will dictate the fairness of this kind of system, of course, but the idea is pretty cool.

I'd be happy if it was simply an Neverwinter Nights 2 styled game with the pathfinder ruleset and universe. I'd love to play a Gunslinger!

No one else worries that this might just turn pathfinder into a DnD 4e kinda of play style? I like Pathfinder for the most part but I feel it isn't going to transfer to the MMO world well because most of the MMO's are smash a button until your cooldown is up on your bigger moves. Also, a reason alot of MMO's get slammed is because essentially their gameplay is all the same. Go back to EQ and then play WoW again and even TOR. All of them are just smash the same moves until you can do your super move on cooldown.

I'm mildly interested, but only mildly. If they mean to create a very sandbox environment (such as Eve Online, the only MMO I've played more than a few days) then this has the potential to stand out and perhaps even be a little successful. If it leans more towards the theme park style of gameplay then it's already dead.
The only other modern sandbox style fantasy/medieval MMO that I'm aware of is Mortal Online. It's a good game for several reasons, but it does appeal only to a niche gaming style. That's it's strength, though. It's been around for years now, not dead, because it offers something that other games don't: Freedom of choice and consequences. Same with Eve.
It's hard to get excited about a PF MMO without knowing more details about how they intend the game to be played. I wish them the best of luck and hope that it's something that interests me.

I was very excited about this last night when the Kickstarter video first popped up on reddit. My excitement has dropped a bit now that I'm not browsing r/treecomics any more.
I really don't want to have to pay a monthly subscription.

Have to say I'm very intrigued and looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
