It looks like the next playtest will arrive at GenCon. WoTC has been saying that this is the greatest participation ever for a D&D product. I don't remember this much buzz about a D&D product. Has anyone changed their minds about how this may improve D&D's place in the current market? thecheeseshop.org------ (Reliving the RPG Obsession Through GURPS)

Has anyone changed their minds about how this may improve D&D's place in the current market? thecheeseshop.org------ (Reliving the RPG Obsession Through GURPS) My only concern is that the vocal minority do not necessarily represent the silent majority. We've already seen a transcript of a WOTC Q&A for D&D Next and voiced concerns that the people feeding into the WOTC knowledge pool can at best be described a mouth breathing power crazed munchkin cock whores. Though if the R&D dept is halfway competent it'll realise that such sample bias is inherent in the design of their chosen method of sampling and take appropriate measures to correct for skew in their data. Having listened to the direction of D&DNext on the latest D&D podcast - terrible sound quality for an official WOTC podcast. - I think they are ignoring the sticky stiff sheets brigade at this stage. I do know that beginning HP's and monster HP's are going to be reduced and that the next play test package should be about character gen with rules for upto 5th level . . . They are also aiming for a total character gen time, start to finish @ 1st level, of 15 mins . . . This is a very promising reversal of the current paradigm

Well now that the packet is out the first thing that I loved was the fluff on the races. The idea that humans sprinkle in bits of other races' languages in their speech (like cursing in Mandarin in Firefly) and that they added a few little things on halflings - which I always thought were lacking - just makes me squeel in delight, and it gives me a good feeling that they're putting their lore writers to use.

in the latest package, did humans seem a little too broken good? +1 to all stats and +1 additional to a single stat?
Also, I hate the philosophy of not putting -X to anything in racial stats because "players dont like it"

Nah, I think the other races are just as strong when it comes to martial power, I believe though they have a slight edge when it comes to spellcasters, that +3 to the main score is too much imo.
Anyone else think the fighter is a bit too strong? That free d6 in damage is huge especially in low levels, now that they have brought the class HPs back to 3e levels. And that knockdown they have I fear is going to be a bitch, free knockdown 1/round no roll required, but the attack one, is a silly, especially since prone gives advantage.
