I'm running Savage Worlds in a homebrew fantasy setting.
That lag though... It worries me a bit; I never have had great audio quality online.

Found you guys on itunes a few months back when I was trying to figure out what system to start with. started a game called airship pirates, but have been using savage worlds recently. Just became active on the forums, and I'm currently writing about my sessions and game world in the savage worlds forum thread. #projecthalfstar

@d.T. Pints
Thank you, and yes actually. The crystals are from a extraterrestrial source, though I haven’t completely figured out what that source is yet.
What I have figured out is that about 1,000 years or so before the time my players are in, the earth was hit by a massive meteor shower. Inside these meteors were the energy crystals. The next 200 years were filled with technological breakthroughs.
But, with each advance in technology, tension between nations grew, and each began to suspect the other of developing weapons using the crystals. This of course lead those nations to develop their own weapons, and vice versa.
The nation now known as Xandria was the first to discover dark energy crystals. These proved to be the most versatile and powerful of all the energy types found so far. Unfortunately they also have a corrupting effect on the user, swaying his thought to those of hatred and violence.
The more Xandria experimented with dark energy, the more aggressive they became as a nation. Soon war was declared on the surrounding empires. As other nations discovered the dark crystals the corruption spread, and the world descended into chaos. In time, seeing the corrupting influence the dark energy was having on the world, a small rebel force rose up to fight back.
In the end, the darkness was purged, returning the world back to its prior state… though most of the technological advances were lost, and the crystals only operate at a small percent of their original power.
Most of the history of that time period has been lost to the people of the world.
It’s my idea that the dark crystals are almost sentient themselves. At least, they effect a person’s actions to fit their own dark nature. Of course there is the opposing Light crystal, which has a purifying effect on its user.
My story deals a lot with alternate dimensions, mainly three dimensions that closely correspond to each other. There is the main world where the PCs are playing, which follows the history I just described. Then there is our dimension, in which the continental drift did happen and the crystal meteor shower didn’t. finally there is the dimension where the rebel force was defeated, and the dark corruption completely took over.
Later on I’ll write about the major plot hook involving these 3 dimensions.
I’ll answer any questions you guys have, and would appreciate any feedback.

This is a review of our past sessions, plus some updates to world info.
Updates first: Main countries are now named. Four seasons empires: Ayrithya(spring), Sommeir(summer), Fou’yr(autumn), Hiems(winter). Mountain Kingdom: Xandria. Far east: Mu.
Ok, now for what’s happened in the game so far…
We started with the PCs meeting on the road while traveling east. They shared common interests and got along reasonably well, so they decided to travel together for the time being.
Players: Chris as Shafalus, an older crystal adept. Bryce as Cyrus, a young bloodthirsty archer. Earl as Jack, an easily distracted rogue. Seth as Maik, the party’s engineer. Mike as Tidus, the tank.
The PCs first came to a small academy city named Mystvalley where they decided to stop and rest up. After exploring the town a bit, the PCs made their way to the local tavern. They settled in and ordered drinks while introducing themselves to the barkeep. In time Cyrus and jack wandered over to the info board that hung on one wall. There were a few simple cliché quests listed (find lost item, kill rats at the church). Cyrus set off to the church to complete that quest. While he was away, the rest of the party was approached by an older man. He identified himself as Aseus, a professor at the academy.
Aseus’ request: He tells the PCs that he owns a mining camp up in the mountains not too far away. During the winter he can’t make the arduous journey to the encampment. But he does send a messenger once every 2 weeks to get a report from the miners, and give them payment. Oddly, this time the messenger has not returned. It only take about half a day to climb up to the camp, but the messenger has been gone for 3 days. Aseus offers to pay the group a handsome sum of money, plus provide lodging at the local inn if the party will travel to the camp, and bring back word of the messenger.
After finding Cyrus and milling about the town for a while, the PCs find Aseus and accept his offer. After picking up some supplies from the item shop, they made their way up the mountain. the journey was summed up with a few quick dex and tracking rolls, and they made it to the camp by around 6 pm. Right before entering the camp, Cyrus and Jack break off and take a trail off to the west. The camp: made up of 3 small lodges, a stable, and large main house, the camp looks to be completely deserted. Nothing was found in the 3 smaller buildings, but Maik found 5 torches in the stable. The party, now Shafalus, Maik, and Tidus, made their way to the main house.
Meanwhile, Jack and Cyrus have found themselves at the entrance to a large mine shaft. So, of course, they go in, though they quickly find navigating the dark tunnels without torches to be quite difficult.
Back at the house: in the main room of the house the party finds a grizzly scene. Blood is splattered across the floor and leads up the stairs to the left. Tidus heads up the stairs while Shafalus and Maik seach the downstairs room. They find the body of a young girl, killed by a hard slash to the base of her neck, laying infront of a writing desk to the right. Maik searches the body and comes up with nothing, while Shafalus searches the desk and find this… (supposed to be a pic here but my internet sucks) Its an unfinished letter.
Meanwhile in the cave, Cyrus and jack have found a storage room with some torches and flit/steel. As the light from the torch fills the room and cave outside they see the shadow of a figure on the far side of the cave. Jack throws his torch toward the figure to reveal their first enemy.
Miner Thrall: the figure is a man, clothed in miners garb, and wielding a pickaxe. He looks up at our two unfortunate heroes, revealing pitch black eyes that simultaneously absorb light and release wispy shadows. Black veins spiderweb through the miners skin. Then he charges…
Back at the house the party has gathered in what seems to be the main bedroom. The blood trail Tidus was following lead in this room then disappeared near a wall. After some searching, Shafalus finds a skeleton key, as well as a room hidden behind a wall to one side of the room. Inside the room, a small iron chest.
To be continued…

So, I've started running a Savage Worlds based in a world that I've been building for... Oh, say, the last 2 or 3 years. Not to say I've been RPGaming for that long, I actually just started playing about 3 months ago. Even at that, I've never "played", only GMed. So, basically I'm using this thread to bounce ideas for my campaign off the community, and show the setting off a little, haha. Here's the basic setting and story so far... (this game started suddenly, so some things are still incomplete. mostly namewise)
The world is a alternate dimension of earth. The landmass still forms the super continent of Pangaea, and evolution took a few different turns than our earth. The world is divided into only a few major empires. These empires are only temporarily named... Right now we're just using the code names that I've been using while writing(it started as a book). They are: The four seasons empires, the mountain kingdom, the badland tribes, and the far eastern lands. Eventually I'll post a list of the final names, and the relations of the empires.
Cultures: The only race is human for now. I'll post more on the culture differences later.
Physics: The biggest difference between normal Earth and this Earth is the existance of energy crystals(which I also have no creative name for yet). These crystals are solidified elemental energy in its purest form. Most people require a tool of some sort tool or weapon to access the energy inside the crystal, while others (currently called adepts or casters) can draw out the energy naturally. Others mayy even reach the point where they develop "blood-line" powers. this occurs when someone used a crystal so often that they bonded with their crystal, and become able to use the energy without a nearby crystal. crystals come in every element, plus some ones I made up. Two crystals that will play a large part later on are the Light and Dark crystals. Light is a purifying and healing energy, and dark is a corrupting energy. Both can be used offensively.
Plot Hooks: This story relys on the existance of alternate dimensions. Which means that somewhere there is the real earth, which plays a large part in the story later on. There is also a version of the current world which is completely corrupted by dark energy. This is where the majority of the big bads will spawn from.
Anything I need to add? We have 2 sessions down, and I'll post the current story later on. Neeed sleeep...
