Was that the movie where they kept saying "Bro" to the point of distraction? Probably. I REALLY had to force myself to sit through the whole movie in the hopes it would get better, but I honestly got very distracted with my knitting at one point. I'm a huge Lovecraft fan but I have to say that almost every piece of film put out based on his works is just garbage. Notable Exceptions: The B&W Call of Cthulhu independent film is great and The Shuttered Room isn't horrible.

Now I want a T-shirt with "Jesus Christ is my Nigga" but I want him to look like he's rollin' dirty with some gang signs and hardcore prison tats. Also, maybe a giant Mary Magdalene tat and definitely a "Mom" somewhere.

Psst, Hyvemynd... it's on Netflix (don't know if that's different in Japan, though).
I haven't watched it yet, but I'm interested to see the main guy in another role. He was in the Relic of Cthulhu movie, which I pretty much hated.

Gotta say that the main reason I listen to HJ and so few other podcasts is that with a limited amount of time to listen I have to make hard decisions. HJ has great production, interesting topics, a chick who frequently gives her opinion, and no one takes themselves too seriously. Kimi being a smart and active contributor is, like, a +4 to my attention span. Plus you have hosts who play my gaming system, AD&D 2nd Edition.

Dude, eternally dry feet when hiking in Florida.
Also, if/when this can be FDA approved - mixing bowls and drinking horns.
Can you imagine such a world!?

This... this is just fabulous. Tap shoed tentacle time warp out of Ravenloft? Best form of transportation ever.

My current character for our 2nd Edition AD&D game is pretty fucked up.
Alfrun discovered she could do magic when she was 10, but kept it to herself. Her family lived in a highly religious town that looked at magic as an abomination. One day, her father caught her doing a light cantrip and turned her in to the village clergy. That same day, she was found guilty of using magic, tied to a stake in the center of town, and lit on fire. She was 12.
She was able to wiggle free of her bounds but not until after the towns folk had pelted her with rotted garbage. Her right side from the chest up had been badly burned and she ran off into the snow covered forest to escape. She wasn't very successful though and soon the town folk caught up with her. They determined that her evil was so strong that they had to bury her alive. Little did the town folk know, but at night a necromancer was digging up all their dead.
From his mountain dwelling the necromancer saw the funeral and headed out that night to collect the body he hoped was still fresh. He was horrified to dig a still living young girl from the frozen ground and did his best to bring her back from the brink of death. Though he was successful he was unable to save her right eye or prevent her body from being horrifically scarred. Once he learned she was capable of magic, he took her on as an apprentice.
Many years latter, Alfrun was forced to leave after her mentor was killed in a summoning accident. She was now in her late 20's and had sewn garments of leather to cover her scarring. Her horrible experiences had turned her into a bitter, angry, selfish person (Charisma 5). On her way out of the area, she burned down the church in her town.
Her time spent with the necromancer, learning his style of magic, twisted the woman's mind. She cares little for life or death and looks at them only as a condition. She has become obsessed with eyes and believes they contain the essence of the individual. She collects the eyes of people and monsters she kills. When she casts spells to see the last moments of a person's life, it involves licking their eyeballs. Eventually, when she gains enough levels I intend for her to make a spell that allows her to use the eyes like the "essential salts" in Lovecraft stories.
She is manipulative, crafty, and people look on her with fear and revolution. She uses their fear to control people. She isn't evil, but because most people abhor magic so much in our setting, they consider her the worst of society. Even her traveling companion, basically a female Conan, keeps a careful eye on Alfrun and doesn't fully trust her. The only thing keeping them together is mutual respect for each other and the fact that they each make the other’s life easier.
I absolutely LOVE playing this character. It lets me take weird and disgusting to the next level. I always try to think of what the most demented, nauseating thing I could do would be. Recently, I watched a horror short film about a girl who uses a syringe to pull out the liquid from eyeballs of people she kills. Then she injects it into her own eye so she can see their life as it “flashes before their eyes.” It was horrific and now I always picture other people reacting to what my character is doing the same way I reacted to seeing the film.

I listen exclusively at work. It's great to drown out my obnoxiously loud and complain-y co-worker. She recently got an undeserved promotion so she now bothers me constantly if I don't have headphones on my head. I even got bright purple ones so everyone is clear that I'd rather not be pestered.
Since I work in the fashion industry as a technical designer I sometimes have to pause the show when doing math because all the talk of modifiers screw me up especially during the actual play podcasts.
I always have OneNote open while working so under my RPG notes tab I have a whole page where I take show notes for myself.

I have to disagree with Malifer. I think Atlantic beaches are nicer than Gulf beaches so maybe it's a personal preference thing? I've lived all over the place in this state and been to most of the beaches. So far, I'd say Coco Beach is my favorite overall. Clearwater beach is my favorite Gulf beach. Just south of Port St. Lucie you have Jupiter. I've not been there but I've heard really good things about their beaches.
Be aware that we are the state of "do things outdoors." Hiking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, farming, gardening, etc. But, we only practice that religion between the months of October and March. Then we all become hermits. Since you've lived in Louisiana you're probably familiar with eagle sized mosquitoes and cockroaches. We have those as well. Coastal areas tend to be better than the center of the state in all ways related to bugs and weather. It's always cooler with less humidity and small bugs.
Other than that we are full of the elderly. It's very sad and isn't just a stereotype. They drive as bad as people say, they're cheap, they're angsty, they hate any sign of life. I don't know about the Port St. Lucie area but over here in Fort Myers we have a "season" for the ones who don't live here permanently (snow birds). They come down around the winter holidays and leave around Mother's Day. During that time we can not eat out at restaurants without waiting over an hour and your drive time is usually doubled. It's always best to leave early at the beginning of the season until you get that year's timing down. The plus side is that depending on how densely your area is populated with snow birds, you might be able to get 2 for 1 specials at restaurants when it isn't season.

I like the idea of the new books coming out, but I still play 2nd and I prefer to buy cheap used books from amazon instead of buying new ones. I still have my black phb, dmg and mm from the 90s and I don't need new ones. Agreed. I have so many of the 2nd Edition books (and am constantly collecting more and more of them on the cheap) that I don't think I want to spend a chunk of money to buy new versions. Shit, we have a 2nd printing DMG we never use. It's in Mint condition. The only book I needed to replace (our one MM that was falling apart) I just got for free from someone on Reddit. Reprint 2nd Edition Dark Sun with Brom's artwork and then maybe you'd get my dollars.

Ah! We can't let this game die! It is awesome! I will take Fear Factory's Ressurection and submit Samael's The Cross. Someone PM me on how to add the embedded YouTube video and I will edit to add it in.

I'll give a big shout out to Amon Amarth, Ensiferum, Turisas, Tyr, and Wintersun. Amon Amarth is fecking awesome, though a lot harder than "hair metal" mentioned on the episode. For my D&D game, especially, I listen to all of the above. Hell, I listen to all of them all the time but I find they are great for writing a game about a frozen county. I have to add that I also listen to my fair shake of Man O War as well as my all time favorite for fantasy games - Summoning. If you haven't enjoyed them before, ALL of their songs are about Lord of the Rings, but they're just a tad different sounding then Blind Guardian... youtu.be/B8IC4aSq-MgWhen I play my free-form text based games online I have a playlist for each character. My time traveling occultist listens to a lot of chamber music where as my gun-slinging former goddess listens to black metal and industrial - Ministry, Rotting Christ, Leather Strip, Astarte.
