Hey all ... Been listening for a few months but the 2 side one epic competition has inspired me to stop lurking. I am burning the backlog of podcasts from both ends and enjoying it immensely.
RPG'd voraciously at the end of the eighties, and early nineties but life got in the way. Loved it though and have started buying up those old systems on Drive Thru RPG and rereading for pure nostalgia value.
Based in Dublin in Ireland (any other Irish listeners out there?).
Played the following (& gm'd most as well) way back when:
D&D PARANOIA Call of Cthulhu Judge Dredd Warhammer Ghostbusters Cyberpunk A little GURPS TRaveller 2300 Space 1889 Dragon Warriors Mechwarrior
Currently reading a little Chill, exploring Savage Worlds (based on your constant ravings), Adventures by G.a.s.l.I.g.h.t, The Laundry, Eclipse Phase.

Hey all, discovered the show about 3 months or so ago, and have been steadily consuming the backlog ever since. Finally caught up a few days ago, and now have decided to listen to some episodes again, because you guys are too damn entertaining. Based in Northern California, the Central Valley more specifically. Just got into roleplaying in the past 5-10 years or so, so I've mostly been a D&D/Pathfinder player, though I have the books for Shadowrun and GURPS, and other systems. Just haven't been able to find a group.

Geetings Doushers,
dirtysteve here.
Love the show and listened to all of the backlog only to now eagerly await the next episode. Joined the forum in May, but only now got around to posting.
Yep, I'm a douchebag. In the Army and currently sentenced to a tour (for my sins) in the Peoples Republic of Maryland, although I am originally from Alabama (Mobile, for those who care - i.e. JiB).
I got started gaming in the early 80s (although through war games - the OLD school). I get a kick out of Stu who is still hung on GURPs and yell at the speaker every time that BRPS is a better system!
These days I play World of Darkness - its what my group likes, although I am trying to broaden their horizons, although they are running with a four year campaign arc, yup good luck with that. I do run online games in Role Playing Online (RPOL) a play by post site that seems the best of breed.
Glad to be here, and keep up the casts!

Hello People,
I've been lurking the board for years now and I figured now is a good time to become more active on the forums, even though I'm a man of few words. I have posted on the old boards a couple of times before, but I don't believe I ever posted in the Intro section before so I believe this is a good place to start.
I started tabletop RPGs late in life. It wasn't until my late twenties when I played in my first game. Now I'm 31 and I've been playing regularly in all sorts of systems. D&D 4th edition, Dresden, Dark Heresy, and so on.
I'm still a video game dude at heart, but I find myself hopping on my console to play Halo less and less in favor of board games and dice. This is definitely a good thing.

Hey All -
Just joined. I'm just one more nerd who has been playing since the late 70's. Back in the day, we played a lot of systems -- AD&D, Top Secret, Star Frontiers, Champions, Shadowrun....more recently, now living in Kansas, I've played D&D (3.0, 3.5, 4e), a little Fudge, and now I've started a Savage Worlds game.
As unfashionable as it may be, I enjoy 4e a lot -- we have a very wargamey flavor to our group -- but lately I've become more and more aware of the way 4e has changed the way I think about game prep, and how I prepare for a session -- which then changes the way we play.

Hello!
Just joined the forum.
Been listening to the podcast for quite a while and enjoying the banter. I have gamed since early eighties.
For many years most of my gaming was in a RQ variant in Swedish called Drakar & Demoner (Dragons & Demons). We did try other games, but they only survived for a short while before we returned to Drakar & Demoner.
But in recent years I’ve really enjoyed the indie/hippie gaming scene. And tried a lot of new games.
I’ve always been a system nerd, and spending hours and hours to hack and expand the rules of system I’m playing. Even more so in recent years with all the AMAZING indie/hippie – games out there with all their new exciting ways of looking at rules and other aspects of the game.

Long time listener, first time poster.
I'm still working my way through the podcasts (Season 3, Episode 8, 42:35).
Friends moving away to college put and end to my RPG days. Every podcast I listen to makes me want to get back into playing. I’ve played AD&D (2nd Edition), Spelljammer, TMNT RPG, Marvel Superheroes, GURPs (very limited).
I’m in SoCal and hope to get back into an RPG soon.
Edit - Forgot to mention, I went to the latest RenFair in Los Angeles and got to meet a few of the guys/gals. Great fun.

43 yer old male. I've been playing since 2nd printing we got from a friends older brother, some time late 1978. Boot Hill, Classic Traveller, Top Secret, Gamma World, and so many I've forgotten. I remember eating Cap-n-crunch and watching the DnD cartoon on Saturday mornings when they were new. Since then I've played most everything.
I've finished the backlog. Not a real feat as I have 60+ hours a week to consume podcasts and audio books. I still game every week, and also get to game with my 11 yr old daughter.
I love zombies.

I have listened off and on again for a few years and have now decided to take the plunge into the tomfoolery that is Happy Jacks. So inspiring is the Happy Jacks that I have taken it upon myself to re-embrace the self destructive nature they so freely preach. drinking more REAL beer after what seems a life time of abstaining has opened new horizons for stupor induced courage, a consequence of this would be upsetting my gaming group with visions of "role playing" and different systems i.e. Mongoose Traveller. Hailing from the obscure state of the spuds, life can become fairly dull, but I have been shown the light!

Hello to the Douchecrew
I was sent here by a friend and am thrilled to have found this AMMMMAAAAAAAZING resource.
A little about myself. I grew up in *rural* Oregon and found RPGs when I was about 11 (so 1983ish). I was introduced by my friend Tims uncle (who was younger then, than I am now) and within a week I had traded my entire (extensive) Transformers collection to Tim for the 1st Ed. AD&D Players, DMs, and Monster Manual books, 2 sets of poly dice, and various other minor things like character sheets. I quickly ran out of CharSheets and started tracing them in pen on notebook paper (remember I lived in bumfucked NOWHERE). My friend Tim and I ran each other through so many made up adventures that GMing was second nature to me. By High School we had managed to corrupt a couple other semi regular friends but it wasn't until my senior year of HS that I met (through Tim again) some real other "Gamers". GM
Tim and I parted ways a bit thereafter though we occasionally keep in touch. I've been through a few groups since then and then an almost decade long hiatus due to work and family. Now I am 39 (40 next year) and just getting back into gaming in the past year. As always happens when I play I start to get the itch to GM. Happy Jacks RPG Podcast turned that itch into a full fledged case of the "GM Hives".
First I listened to Season 8 and then I started going through the backlog. I am currently on S02 E09 and manage 1-2 episodes daily.
You guys helped put into words the type of game I always excelled at running. I'm starting a Sandbox Campaign in a fresh campaign world and I'll just be making it up as I go along. I'll be using a modified version of Beacon v5.0 for a set of very experienced gamers. I want to play fast and loose with the rules and let the players define their characters actions through role-play rather than roll-play. Dice are fun and add a randomizer to account for luck but the main story will be driven by player decisions rather than player luck. Beacon seems ideal for this. My group has no players with Munchkin tendancies and everyone wants to create a unique and flavorful character so I am really looking forward to it.
The only bummer is that the group can only meet once a month. Add to that 80% of us are 40+ and our bed times get in the way. Ah to be young and GM those 13 hour marathon overnight sessions again.
A friend of mine recently got to play in a bunch of HJ games at Strategicon and I am incredibly jealous. In my previous years gaming I never had the urge to go to a con. This year I'm going to Orycon and I am going to have a blast.
See you all around!

Hey gang,
I've been double-ending Happy Jacks for a while now; listening to the latest episodes and from S1E1 forwards... what did you think I meant... sicko.
I've been gaming for about 30 years, which makes me older than dirt (but still younger than Stu). I've played just about everything, and am a compulsive collector of RPGs. My favourites are Dark Heresy, Exalted, Aberrant/Trinity, In Nomine and Rolemaster. Plus Cthulhutech and Hero. And maybe Anima. And Shadowrun. Yes, yes, yes, I hear you. If i pick everything then nothing is really a favourite. Well, I don't enjoy Call of Cthulhu. Oh, and Wild Talents/ORE.. that's one of my fav's too. Along with Corporation.
I'm currently coming to terms with the fact that I'm going to need to jettison most of my RPG collection because I'm moving from Glasgow (the one in Scotland not the one in Montana, Virginia, Kentucky or Missouri) to San Francisco in January.
Are there any gaming clubs in the bay area? There don't seem to be any games shops in SF that I can find. If I don't find a game, I'm pretty sure that I'll die; and dying early in the "Rob Moves To CA" module would annoy the GM, and my wife.
R.

Know that by putting out your heart felt tragedy of moving to the lands o' Billy Wallace the vultures have already begun to circle...eagerly awaiting to pick over your gaming collections bones. Pssst...please feel free to PM me with an offer to buy the "lot".

Sadly, I don't think that's going to work out - I'm moving from Scotland - and the sheer cost shipping my huge pile of dusty books to anywhere in North America is the prohibiting factor. 1000+ books at 1 to 3 pounds each in weight is about the same as shipping a car that has been cut into pieces and put in matching cardboard boxes. Since you seem to be in Alaska...

I believe the bigger one in SF is called Gamescape and there are multiple ones not far from it if you don't mind a BART ride or have a car. If you check meetup you will also find a lot of rpg meetup groups to check out.
