After listening to the podcast I have decided to try playing savage worlds unfortunately I am not sure where to start should I buy the deluxe addition or just pick up the explorers addition? I am planning on running a fantasy game. If anyone could throw together a list of beginner essentials I would be very grateful.

If you are planning to run a fantasy game, I would get the Deluxe since it has the race building stuff along with several obvious races. Also it has a decent bestiary in it to get stuff started.
"Hellfrost" is an awesome fantasy setting and has an arctic specific bestiary if that is something your interested in.

If it were me I'd probably get the dead tree edition of the deluxe book and buy just the pdf the setting book.
I say paper for the core book mainly because I like highlighting any spots mentioned in the errata page so it's easy for me to tell when I'm looking at an out of date entry.
Also, I don't like looking something up at the table, but I do like to occasionally delegate the task to a player while I deal with something else. Having the book lets me hang onto my tablet that probably has some session notes that I'm actively using.

Didn't Shane say Explorer's Edition is no longer in print?
Also, Deluxe Edition is a limited run, IIRC. If you think you might want it, you should get it -- assuming you want dead tree editions.

It's no longer being printed but is available from amazon and other sources until existing copies are sold.

I don't think that there was a definite timeline on this, but Shane had also mentioned that a Deluxe Explorer's Edition was in the works, and would be released when the hardcovers had sold out. If you don't have a problem dropping $30 on the hardcover version (totally worth it, IMO) I'd get one copy of that for the group for now. If you guys end up liking it, the players can pick up the softcover version later so that there are a couple more copies at the table.
As far as beginner's essentials go, for a fantasy game, you should get a copy of the core rules and the fantasy companion. The companion will help you modify the game rules to better fit a fantasy setting. I'd also recommend a premade setting if you don't have something in mind already; like Azuretalon said, Hellfrost is a pretty fleshed out fantasy setting made for SW.
Best of luck!

After looking into the hellfrost setting I have decided that this is something I am very interested in, unfortunately they run around 20 bucks a peice, if I could get a list of essentials for this setting I would be very gratefull.
P.s. thanks for trying to help a new and nervous savage worlds GM.

I think your first step is to move to eastern Iowa so I can play in your game.

I would love to have you play in my game, but I'm military and I don't have a lot of options to just get up and move plus I would have to leave my group and that would make me sad. If you are ever in WA though we with fit you in everyones welcome.

I think you could do a decent Hellfrost Campaign with just the Players Guide and Bestiary. JiB might be right about the problems, I have just read through them and haven't played or GMed it. I just think its a groovy concept.

I run a fantasy game with Deluxe plus the Fantasy Companion. Although most of what you need is in Deluxe, the FC has a few neat things added to it. Of course that is my preference as I roll my own settings usually.
