Played our first game of L5R.
I made four or five pregens and had the players pick a PC. It was a very low-level game, where the PCs are from a minor family sent to investigate why some bandits in a neighboring family's valley have had free reign for nearly three years.
I didn't use any of the magic rules or any of the optional rules, since this was the first time playing L5R for all of us.

Awesome. How did it go? I haven't played the newest set of rules. What were your impressions of the gameplay?

It went well. Everyone had fun.
I haven't played any previous versions of the game, so I can't compare 4th to any other rules set.
That said, I really like the wounds system. We're still working out the kinks, having read the rules, but only played once now.

Yeah the wounds are probably one of my favorite parts of L5R, as is the roll and keep system.

I have been enjoying these AP pod casts a great deal. I now have the chance to play the system and am getting into the back story ect. I went back to listen to the first podcast now that I have read some of the core book.
I noticed that Stork made up a players aid, is there any way to get a copy of it. It sounds very useful.

As I did not make the art myself, just re-purposed things I found on the web, I feel uncomfortable posting them. I can tell you that all the information was gleaned from this site www.emeraldsamurai.com/pages/l5r_resources/With artwork found doing a search for samurai art.

And I just GM'd my first session. Which wasn't my intention when I bought the cheap PDF (thanks for the twitter heads up Stu). I was planning to just read it out of interest, inspired by your Actual Plays. But there's something about the system, and especially the detailed and weirdly believable low-cliche fluff, that had me changing plans creating characters that I hoped my group would take to and fixing to run it, this evening.
I started the included introductory scenario (so spoiler warning) with a Scorpion Ninja, a Phoenix Loremaster, and a Monkey Bushi as PCs. (There's a Dragon shugenga waiting in the wings, his player is recovering from an op and couldn't make it.)
The observant Loremaster already has his suspicions about the affair, and the session finished with the Murder, and the Monkey being asked to lead the investigation. Oh, and the Scorpion looks to have found a new Sensei among the NPCs.

Oh dear, the second session didn't go very well. Or rather it did, until they just failed to stop the actual murderer burning the evidence.
So they had to face/off in an Iujitsu duel. And the NPC won, proving his innocence, crippling the PC, and bringing everyone down ...
