Scrap the G+ thing. Sorry. It looks like there's no way to record just the audio from a Hangout, which is what I want to do. Are people OK with just a Skype conference call? It aint fancy, but we don't really need video for AW-based games. I trust everyone to use the honor system when rolling dice, and we can do a screenshare if someone really needs to see a quickly sketched map.

What's wrong with peas and carrots together? Everyone loves those frozen mixed vegetable packs, right? jfever can be the peas, D.T.Pints can be the carrots, and JiB'll be the corn. ;D As expected, the reality of running the first session in about 48 hours has finally set in. I'm doing the GM equivalent of silently running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Heh. Although it's not totally necessary, I've found it's much easier to play AW-based games when you have the physical playbook in front of you. That way you can circle/mark off your character choices, fill in Bonds, record equipment uses, and scribble down notes. Again, you don't have to. But I would recommend everyone print out their character sheet, spell list (if needed), and both the Basic and Special Moves sheets for easy reference. You can shrink the front and back of each sheet to fit on a single page without the text getting too small. The PDF is a little finicky to print. I found the best way to do it is to highlight the pages you want to print, and then use the "Print Pages" command. Got the PDF printed out to keep in front of me. Skype sounds good. And as far as the headless chicken goes...if possible don't sweat it at all. What has always been my first love for this community is how its a collection of easy going bastards. Always ready with a kindly "Good morrow cunts!" followed by some words of encouragement to keep 'em rollin and keep it fun. I would imagine you could skype in Japanese bird calls and and we could make a game out of it. But, seriously if I don't get a +1 Lute of Light Jazz Awesomeness in the first ten minutes it'll get ugly...

I like the visual interaction the video gives and it entertains me enough to hold my attention. I have never tried a phone game before, but I am the type of person that gets bored on the telephone and I can't listen to audio books because my mind starts wander to the other things I need to do. If the choice is between seeing who I'm playing with and not having an actual play or not seeing people and having a podcast, then I'm for the video. It would make the game better for me.

Alright, book bought, and downloading now. I think I'm leaning most towards playing a Druid, they just look cool.

I'm totally down with skype calls. Here's my advice, if you want to use some quick n dirty super basic maps at any point, I used to use googly docs spreadsheets set to squares for fast sketch maps.

Just to be clear, I don't get a cut of the Dungeon World PDF sales.
Though I totally should. I mean, I just made the authors, what? Like $40? ;D Hopefully people won't feel as if they've wasted their money after playing. Nothing sucks worse than feeling as if you just flushed your cash down the toilet. *cough* THE SECRET FIRE *cough* rip off *cough* Ehrm. Excuse me.
Not having anything to look at during a "telephone" game is a problem for some people, malifer. I get that. That was one of the things my group discussed after running a few Apocalypse World and Monsterheart games over Skype. I have no problems running a video chat, as I've got a web camera. I'm hoping that the game is engaging enough that the lack of visuals won't be an issue though.

I don't need maps and minis, I just like to see the other people, otherwise I'm gonna get lost as to who is who. I'm at work now, but when I get home do I need to download a skype program or just go through a website? (never used skype) Also I sorry about the Secret Fire it had a good sales pitch (I almost got it too).

Oh! Video chat is all I need. I don't need maps and minis, I just like to see the other people, otherwise I'm gonna get lost as to who is who. Awesome. Glad to hear it, malifer. Video will make it easier to see who's talking. Things went OK without video in the games I tried before, but that was with my usual group and I knew them all by voice. This time we'll all be playing with people we probably haven't heard before. Well, except for JiB. We all know what he sounds like. You will have to download Skype if you don't have it already. It's really easy. Just go to www.skype.com, click or hover over the "Get Skype" tab at the top, and select your operating system. All you need is the free account and a web cam. I have a premium account, which allows me to initiate group video chats. One you do that, PM me your Skype name so I can add you as a contact. I sent out a PM to the guys in the first session with my Skype name, but I actually don't mind if everyone has it. It's c_stone_bush. I'll just ignore people who I don't know or who piss me off.

I pretty much play solely online. What I would say is during that beginning log in time, you may want to give the recording a try. Also, as we will have first time skypers, we may want to avoid maps at all costs. Trying to deal with new skype problems AND messing with google docs would make this the most boring AP ever. Unless you plan on editing. . . . . . then who gives a fuck.
I'm excited yall. This be my first Happy Jacks game. Is that the same for anyone else today?

I met my G+ group through the HJ forums, if that is what you're asking. We meet semi-regularly. So far we play "the game that shall not be named in a Hyvemind thread" and Traveller. To Hyve, Cool. I get it set up either tonight or tommorrow.

Yeah Fevah!
This is my first HJ game as well. Heading into work for a few hours and then back for some DW. Hopefully, the 40 mph winds were having in this wintry corner of Alaska won't hinder my return...I've sent my skype id to Chris as a PM. And now to start practicing my bardic theatrical voice, ah fuck it.
See ya on the tubes folks.

Yup, this'll be my first HJ game, as well as my first time to play Dungeon World. Looking forward to meeting you guys and giving this a spin!
ETA: At the rist of derailing the thread, what didn't you like about TSF? I actually haven't heard much about it before, but the DTRPG spiel at least sounds interesting, heh.

Hey guys. Just in time for our third session, the authors of Dungeon World have released the playtest version of the Barbarian class. ericfromnj, forresst, and scubasteve if any of you are interested in playing a Barbarian, let me know and I'll PM you a Dropbox link.
I've read it over and it looks OK. I'm not outrageously keen on one of the class moves, and it feels a bit like an "advanced class". Not in the sense that another character would "level up" and become a barbarian, but for the player. Just a heads up. See you guys on Sunday! ;D

Ahoy Hyve,
Curious to see if there's room in any of the future DW games or are they at an end ?
Cheers.
