OK. After writing several novel-length posts about my play group's experience with Dungeon World in another thread, a few people have expressed intrest in playing a game over Skype. I am totally down for this, provided we can work out a time to play given the time difference between Japan and the States (or the UK). Currently, I am 14 hours ahead of the East Coast, 15 hours ahead of Chicago, and 17 hours ahead of LA due to Daylight Savings Time. Just for reference, when the HJ's live stream starts on Friday 8:30 pm back in LA, it's 1:30 pm Saturday afternoon over here in Osaka. I'm thinking I can run the game for about 4 players (not including myself). I had three players in the first DW game I ran, and things went pretty smoothly. Four players would make a nice, rounded party, and hopefully not be too difficult too juggle with regards to the time differences. The slots will be first come, first served and I'm holding a few slots for people who've already expressed intrest in the game. If we can't work out a convenient time to play due to the time difference, I'll expect people to be gracious and vacate their slot so that someone else can fill it. ;D Heh. "Fill the slot". Yes, I'm still 15. Maybe that's why I like Monsterhearts so much. - Slot #1 - held for ericfromnj
- Slot #2 - held for ironnikki
- Slot #3 - tentatively held for beerngaming, who expressed interest in an AW game
- Slot #4 - open
If there is a lot of demand, maybe I'll open a 5th slot.

Unfortunately, in their infinite wisdom, the heads of my department scheduled the ONLY TWO CLASSES EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO TAKE at 8:00 AM and 7:30 PM during the week. Sigh.
What I'm getting at here is that I'm aware that my schedule is very limited, but I'm going to bend over backwards to try to make this work. Hyve, can you give us an idea of when (in your time zone) you would be able to run?

I'm interested as I've never even heard of the system. Playing new ones are always fun. But I do think we need to know Hyve's schedule, as it would be the most important one to know.

Yeah, I guess it would be easier if I posted my schedule first, huh? Sorry about that. All the times below are Japan times, so you guys would be 14 to 17 hours behind me, depending on where you are.
Monday to Thursday: 6:30pm to 11pm. I usually get home around 5:20pm on weekdays, and so could start the game fairly early. I wouldn't want it to run much past 11pm though, as I have work the next day.
Friday: 3pm to 12am. Fridays are half days for me, and I get home around 2pm.
Saturday and Sunday: 7am to 12am. My weekends are usually free, and my girlfriend is cool with me scheduling "game days" provided they're not too often and that I also do stuff with her. Which I do, of course.
So I'll leave it up to you guys and work backwards and see if there's a time you're free that coincides with my schedule. I also have New Year's vacation coming up, from December 28th to January 4th inclusive. I'm not going anywhere, and so will very likely be available 24/7.
Oh, and as ericfromnj suggested, starting with a one shot would be best, rather than committing to a campaign right from the get go.

I think that trying to do it on a weekday would be tough to work out schedules. I'm pretty free on weekends, with the excpetion of Sunday afternoons (in my time zone). So, out of the times you gave, I could probably make any period of Saturday or Sunday work, that you've given in Japan times. For reference, if I haven't gotten myself confused, that would be Friday from 4 PM to Saturday 9 AM, and Saturday 4 PM to Sunday 9 AM Iowa time.
I'll be in Texas over Christmas break, which is the same time zone as Iowa, and might be able to squeeze a game in while I,m there. I'll be there from 21 Dec to 7 Jan.
I expect those with kids will have a more restrictive schedule, so I'll try to work around everyone else's schedule.

I'd like to try! I'm pretty sure I can make the weekend slots but I have to check my class schedule before I can know about weekdays after christmas is over.

Not sure if there's still that open #4 slot but a weekend game would be great. Do you want pregen characters ?

I'm just about to step out for lunch, but it appears I've gotten a lot more interest in Dungeon World than I anticipated. Which is totally awesome! ;D I would prefer to run games with groups of four players though. Dungeon World (like all Apocalypse World games) doesn't have an initiative mechanic or a mechanic for taking turns other than "whatever is appropriate for the fiction". I'm worried that with more than four players things will start to get messy and I'll start unintentionally ignoring people. So here's what I'll do. I'll go through the posts and assign people the slots based on when they responded. I'm more than willing to run two (or even three sessions or more) sessions so that everyone who's interested can try the game.

All right. Upon looking at my schedule, the best times for me are probably Sunday mornings around 8/9am. That'll make it 6/7pm Saturday evening on the East Coast, 3/4pm Saturday afternoon on the West Coast, and 2pm in Alaska. I could even start 2 hours later (11am Osaka time) to give the LA and Alaska people a bit more of a Saturday afternoon. Much later than that though and the East Coast people start getting into the wee hours. The earliest I could run a game is on Sunday is December 30th (making it the afternoon/evening of Saturday December 29th for all you folks Stateside). But I also have the 31st, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd off from work, and am willing to run games on those days as well. Then we go back to Sundays; January 6th, 13th, and 27th (I'm unavailable the 20th). I've broken the requests into two games, based on when people responded. They're as follows: Team A:- eticfromnj
- ironnikki
- beerngaming (provided he's interested)
- JiB
Team B:- jfever
- forresst
- D.T.Pints
- malifer
Those lists can shuffle around based on who is available when. So, if people could say what afternoon/evening they're available, we can go from there. Cheers. ;D

Pencil me in. I would like to try out the system. (I have Monster of the Week, but haven't looked at it much)
I could definitely find a time to play Jan 1st (I'm on the East Coast in the States)
I'll need to look at my schedule and do some math for something more steady...I'll do that tonight.

Penciled in. Same here. Well, I mean I've looked at it, but that's definitely another AW-based game I want to play.

I can totaly go on the saturday afternoon. I'm on the west coast so if people want to split up more along west/east lines, then put me in the west group

Splitting people up between East/West groups may be the way to go. Thanks for the suggestion, forresst. If people could chime in about where they fall on the East/West divide that would be really helpful. I know where some of you are, but not everyone.
And to answer D.T.Pints' question from a few posts back, there's no need for people to show up to the session with characters ready to go. Character creation takes all of 10 minutes (if that, even); just circle a few choices and tick a few boxes. Plus, AW-based games really benefit from everyone doing character creation together as a group.
Much like D&D 4e, Dungeon World takes a very "hands off" approach when telling you how to RP your character. (The similarities between 4e and DW end there, though.) There are no Disads or Hinderances in DW, allowing you to put whatever "character" into the character you want. The only thing the rules dictate is what class you are; Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Thief, and Wizard. No doubles in the party. Choose... wisely. ;D
