Quick question. I have a friend who is a professional game designer with a published setting in a D20 variant system. During a recent conversation, I asked if he had ever considered publishing a Savage Worlds version of his game. He smirked and claimed that the Savage Worlds rule system couldn't successfully capture the 'flavor and feel' of his setting because it was so complex -- essentially comparing it to playing Chess with a checker board set.
Well... challenge accepted!
My question for the community is this: Are you aware of any Licensed Savage Worlds 'versions' of a previously published setting with a system built specifically for it? Mind you, I'm not talking about fan-made conversions here.
I've already started designing variant mechanics and setting rules to graft my friend's 'epically complex' setting and system to Savage Worlds Deluxe. Ha! And my goal is to have him 'play test it' and consider a joint publishing venture for a Savage Worlds version of his published work.
I was just curious if this has been done before... and by whom.
As always, Stay Savage!

Earthdawn was it's own game, now it's available in Savage Worlds, Pathfinder and the original flavors.
Darwin's Worlds was a d20 that is now available for SW.
Would it be too silly to include Deadlands? As my limited understanding is that Savage Worlds is based off a board game called the Great Rail Wars and old Deadlands was different than the new.
And Suzerain was developed with two systems Mojo rules (?) and Savage Worlds.

Can't convert a D20 world into Savage Worlds and have it translate well?
That is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard. If it was something like L5R, or another game where the mechanics are so tied into the lore, then I could see some argument made. If it can fit into the homogenization that is D20, it has a great chance at being converted successfully to Savage Worlds.
What mechanics does he not think will translate? Don't forget that several Savage Worlds settings alter the rules, add new ones, or even change mechanics. Dungeon Fantasy adds levels and classes, for example.

I've yet to find anything that can't be Savaged so I call shenanigans on his assertion.

Realms of Cthulhu. CoC was made for the BRP system and vice versa.
And yes, you can include Deadlands. I used to run it at conventions with a friend and it is interestingly more complex. However, Savage Worlds nailed the flavor of it with their Savaged version.

If your buddy really believes this, I would recommend you encourage him to throw his game at the PEGInc forums and let them show him how wrong he is. A more motley assemblage of tinkerers you have never seen. I guarantee you within a fortnight, you'd have a fun, flavorful, fast version of his game converted and up on Savage Heroes.
There are a few settings where Savage Worlds wouldn't be my preference for system, but I've encountered few that can't have its flavor and flair captured by a good Savaging.

Thanks for all the encouragement, Savages! Woot. I actually cobbled together a working model for a playtest and ran it last weekend at my monthly mini-con. The creator brought his son and observed his game being savaged at the table.
Nailed it! YEAH!! Savage Worlds for the Muthaf#@$ing Win!
The doc still needs a little work before I'm ready to post it on Savage Heroes; but I'll post a link when it's done.
