plus.google.com/107726962705736524877/posts/czMZi2QWsZUExcerpt: ...I felt an obligation to this community to provide a reliable gaming resource, and the eventual decision I came to was to approach the Roll20.net virtual tabletop developers about them stewarding the TTF community going forward. I believe that bringing our community into theirs represents a positive step in the right direction for tabletop gaming as a whole, and will only strengthen this growing online community moving forward. I believe that Roll20 has a feature list and roadmap of where I was attempting to go with Tabletop Forge and that as a combined force we can do awesome things for online gaming.

I have been wondering if this would happen. I think they both had similar goals in mind and Roll 20 has lately been making some great strides.
So I think with their powers combined there are excellent roads ahead.

Oops. I should have linked to the original page than that other guy's G+ post. Oh well.
Anyway, I too also hope things work well with the endeavor. I'd been liking what I've been seeing with them.

I've been following this on G+.
I'm disappointed, because having two competing RPG platforms would make both of them better.
Now there is only one.
I was using Roll20.net for my G+ game, but in session 2 or 3, it wouldn't load for most of us, so we just played in a hangout.
Since then, I've become even more convinced that we may not need the extra bells and whistles.
It requires more abstraction by the GM, but it's worked fine without the extra stuff.
And I have to say, this (plus a lot of other stuff) is making me a little turned off to kickstarter.

Having just kamikazed into G+ via Sir Guidos L5R game I was pleasantly surprised at both the audio/video quality of G+. None of us that were present for last Sundays meet and greet had used the G+ plugin rolld20 yet.
I have been a long time utilizer of Fantasy Grounds but its cost turns many people off...however their numerous rule sets Savage Worlds, GURPS, Call of Cthulhu, Warhammer Fantasy, D&D v1-4, Pathfinder, +15 or so more is pretty damn cool. Makes record keeping a snap! But I'm certainly into checking out Rolld20 with our L5R game.

I'm disappointed, because having two competing RPG platforms would make both of them better. Now there is only one. I think there is a case to be made that in the short term, it will make roll20 better than either could have hoped to be. An example is that you can now launch a roll20 session from within a hangout, rather than only having the option to launch a special hangout from roll20.net. This is a recent(ish) development, and my understanding is that it's a direct result of the merger. In the long term, I agree competition does tend to drive things to a higher standard. However, I think that the 'market' was still too small to support two hangout apps aimed at exactly the same crowd. My hope is that roll20 will get good enough to grow that 'market' which might justify more options in the future. That's my optimistic take on things anyway. And I have to say, this (plus a lot of other stuff) is making me a little turned off to kickstarter. Yeah that's the truth. I was informed that as a tabletop forge backer, I would be given a paid account on roll20.net. Only problem is I already have a paid account on roll20, at the highest tier. So... I guess I'm shit out of luck.

I still haven't received anything from Roll20 yet... You could try sending an email to < team AT roll20.net > that's who I got my confirmation from that my TTF account had been ported.

I wanted to like TTF better than Roll20 because we had that connection on the boards here, but I got hooked on the ability to pre-make each page, and I just can't switch now. Still I had hoped TTF would surpass Roll20. Roll20 was sort of a pain to get to work for me and my little group that play on it. First off, the fog of war and grid system was borked on my laptop until I installed Firefox. For some reason it just did not like Chrome. Then we had to get my cousin to download Chrome because on his desktop Roll20 did not like Firefox lol.
It has been worth the hassle, but I can honestly see how that would turn people off. My players are sort of computer nerds used to trouble shooting and doing this sort of thing, so its more like a puzzle than an obstruction to us.
