Thought I might pick up a fantasy setting for SW but there are so damn many
Hellfrost Hael Legends of Steel Beast & Barbarians Suzerain Winterweir Earthdawn Fantasy Companion Shaintar
Probably even more I don't know about or think to put here.
Any opinions?

Hellfrost has sort of a leaning in favor of faith based magic but I really like the flavor of the setting.
I've heard very good things about Suzerain.

I have only played Sundered Skies and Beasts and Barbarians. B&B was nothing special in my opinion, not enough wackiness for savage worlds, a straight up Conan-style world. Sundered skies was much more fun, because of flying ship dogfights, floating islands and a deep, dark and a somewhat claustrophobic world. Also elves are among the main bad guys...

I have only had limited exposure to fantasy in Savage Worlds. I have played a couple of VTT games using the Wizards and Warriors thing from their site. That being said, I have looked at lots of the Hellfrost stuff, skimmed Shaintar, and really gotten into the Sundered Skies.
The reason I think I would pick Sundered Skies is because I think Savage Worlds would "feel" best in Sundered Skies. The time I've taken to read about Hellfrost, I have come to the conclusion that I like the concept, but that I would probably like it better playing in that world using the Pathfinder rule set with tweaks to make it fit. Sundered Skies seems to have the crazy, out there elements in it that I have come to love from Savage Worlds.

My buddy Barrett has been running a SW Sundered Skies campaign in OK and has been really digging it. JiB

Sundered skies looks like a lot of fun I would love to run it.
50 Fathoms is pirates but totally a fantasy world pirates.
Iron Dynasty from Reality Blurs is an oriental fantasy which also looks like a lot of fun. It has rules set up so you could play a classic shogun game to a high fantasy game with magic and Bamboo Mechs. Reality Blurs has some of the best add on feats I have seen in 3rd party SW settings.
Runepunk also from Reality Blurs is basically a steampunk fantasy setting.
Beast and Barbarians is a standard sword and sorcery setting.
Shainter is epic high fantasy think huge bonuses, lots of bennies the heroes are far above and beyond normal folk.
Suzerian pushes things way out there to very high level stuff they add an extra rank of demigod after legendary and have you hopping worlds/universes and time.

That is a good distinction to make. Sundered Skies is definitely NOT Tolkien or High Fantasy. The Dwarves are more like WoW'Gnome Steampunk, and then the Elves are like part plant.
Also should note that Hellfrost turns some people off because you need 3 books just like in D&D. Player Guide, Gazetteer, and Bestiary. I don't know enough about the setting to say if you need the main SW book on top of those other 3 or if its all encompassing.

Which of the settings we've talked about here would be better for running with family/kids? Or which are the least grim/dark?

family/kids? I would probably just go Fantasy Companion and go pretty Tolkien with it.
Maybe Shaintar? (I haven't read it, but it's put out there as 'high fantasy'
Back to the OP. I really like Sundered Skies, but just for completions sake, might I mention Evernight? It would require the conversion from pre-explorers edition savage worlds to deluxe edition. ie STR+d4 is listed as Str+1 (but that's really all you'd have to do).

Actually the Elves are treehugging Nazis that use feral mutant minions and worship a Demon Tree God. Their SS-like corps use plant armor fused in their body and pilot terrifying living tree ships. You can't get any more un-Tolkien like than that ;D

I was going to mention Evernight but it is really more of a campaign adventure then a campaign setting. There is not much depth to the world beyond how it effects the adventure. Also ever night is pretty dark for kids .

For Kids - Sticks and Stones - GO Fantasy Caveman! Have some fun being named Og and fighting Dinosaurs and Shaman with magic.
I have to also support Sundered Skies because it is really a crazy world with some twists on traditional fantasy tropes. Sunlight drives people to a very angry and transformational madness. Orcish warpriests to worship a god of battle but also must keep everyone from going mad. Elven Nazis. Oppressed intelligent animals. If I didn't have a Savage Worlds hater in my group I would have totally run this over my current D6 Star Wars smuggler's campaign (which admittedly I do love but still...)

Suzerain is more of a portal-jumping system. I suffer from ADD&D, so the setting is ideal if you have ooh-shinny tendencies. Suzerain is built to be 'setting alpha' form which you can take characters into Deadlands, or any other Savage Setting.
