So, I had the chance to look at the original Traveller books this weekend, and I immediately wondered where the info to allow a player to play an alien race is.
Obviously, due to thier physiology, some races in space settings will have different sizes, shapes and environmental adaptations that should translate to game mechanics, but I have found nowhere in books 1-3 that describes how to do such a thing.
I did see the "alien races guides 1-4, and briefly flipped through them. they provide some info on Traveller's races, but what about custom alien races"
thanks, Shoe

To my knowledge, Classic Traveller did not have rules for players to play non-human PCs.
Such rules exist in Mongoose Traveller, but I think the only non-human race they're available for is Vargr.
I don't know about Mega or TNE.
Looking through T5, the system has made allowances for non-human races, but I haven't found any rules for those races within the setting nor rules for creating your own races.

I'm sure original traveller did have rules but they were tucked awayvin one of the numerous pamphlet supplements. Aaron

I think I have the entire classic traveller collection on my handy-dandy T5 CD-ROM.
I'll go home tonight and check it out. Maybe there is. I sure don't remember it though.

There were so many books I lost count. I do remember my GM in the day having a small selection of aliens to play . . . But that may have just been a house rule . . . He had more books than me, I only had the boxed basic set - 14yrs old pocket money only went so far. I did have a copy of mega traveller but that's long gone missing Aaron

There were a few books called "Alien Modules" put out by GDW. I have 8 of them, though there could be more, they are: 01 Aslan 02 K'kree 03 Vargr 04 Zhodani 05 Droyne 06 Solomani 07 Hivers 08 Darrians A quick internet search for Traveller Alien Modules turned up this index.rpg.net/display-series.phtml?seriesid=457

Thanks....it's strange how little attention to creating alien races there is for all the other stuff they have random generation tables for

Those books listed had tables for generating characters for those races. I have piles upon piles of Traveller books, but I have not seen any rules for generating new races from scratch. Maybe they thought it too involved a process to trust to just tables?
