Excellent! Now I can steal more one liners from CADave for Sir Guido's game...like his borrowing of Quint from Jaws pronunciation of demise as "DEMEEZE" that fucker cracks me up!

I think this goes without saying, but I'm loving the drama in this episode. All the tricky social situations that can't be solved with combat are fan-freaking-tastic. Oh no! We have six important guests, and only five spaces at the head table! Who gets left out, and how do we spin it so they're not insulted? Oh no! We have something suspicious and potentially dangerous in out midst, but lots of eyes and ears around us. How do we navigate this minefield without dishonoring anyone? Absolutely brilliant. *slow clap*
ーさん (san) is a gender neutral suffix. It's just like "Mr.", "Ms.", or "Mrs." in English. So when you're being polite, like making small talk with someone you don't know at a dinner party, you'd call the person "[Family name]-san". So, Kimi's character, Ikume, would refer to the Scorpion clan shugenja as 河豚川さん (Fugugawa-san).
If Kimi's character and the Scorpion clan shugenja become friends, Ikume could refer to the NPC as "Ayaka-chan", "Aya-chan", or even "Ah-chan" (the Japanese frigging love to shorten stuff). ちゃん (chan) is the "cute" suffix used for young girls. The Scorpion clan shugenja is older than Ikume however, so calling her anything ending in -chan would probably mean the NPC sees Ikume as either very familiar, and/or very childish. Ayaka, as well as any of the other PCs, could call Kimi's character "Ikume-chan", "Iku-chan", or even "I-chan" (pronounced like "ee") with no problem, as she is so young.

Probably my favorite session yet. I've grown to love non combat sessions because of how much combat my own GM puts us in even when we ask for less combat.
Keep up the great story, so I can steal some of your ideas when I begin running for my own groups!

Far be it for me to pick at nits, but there is a very minor one in this that I wanted to point out. I have no idea if this is a normal Japanese thing or not, but in Rokugan one is never referred to by their vassal family name outside of their own family. So the Scorpion shugenja wouldn't be Fugugawa Ayaka in Crane lands, she would be referred to as Shosuro Ayaka.
Obviously, it doesn't make a real difference so do what you want. I just wanted to point it out for clarity's sake.

Excellent. I'd just logged in for the first time in a while, to ask Stu if we'd hear any more from the happy valley.
Keep 'em coming.

Man, Stork and them need to stop being so scared of the scorpion clan, and the shugenja who has not yet tried town opiated them, they aren't bad guys!
The lion clan is far worse with their warmongering ways!

Excellent episode. Adding Kimmi mixes things up a bit, adds some new unpredictability into the group.
Edit:
Not that she's unpredictable, I mean, she adds something new to the group that we don't know how things are going to go compared to the other 3 that we are well acquainted with

Finally caught up on this. Great stuff! I could tell that Stu was just reveling in describing the various beers in loving detail. And now I really wish I could talk my group into L5R. Maybe sometime...!
