For my games I like to keep things organized for my players to be able to access at any time and I've found that I don't like how Obsidian Portal is organized. So for the L5R game I started up a free forums and have been posting there. Do you think its too much? Forums

It will be interesting if the obsidian reforged kickstarter deals with some of these issues. Their forums suck. I do however the adventure log and the ability to incorporate adventure summaries with found art and player secrets.
I really enjoy having access to detailed forums. Our L5R game has so many npcs that I really have trouble keeping them all straight I'm using the forums right now to write my character downtime story.

I don't think it is too much at the moment but it could easily become so, I think the trick is to only focus on details for NPCs we actually have significant interactions with. For example while it was nice to have backgrounds on all the contestants during the Topaz Championship we had virtually no direct contact with the majority of them so the information went unused.
The other thing is getting us, the players, to make use of it and add our own info which is something I've always found to be an issue. Part of it is the usual trouble of getting players to do anything but the other is knowing what we, as players, can add to the info that you've already posted.

The xp rewards were a nice perk Sir, but I agree with Whodo we had a giant list of npcs and some info but THEN they became adults and all the names changed!! Grrr...(or whatever noises a frustrated crab makes).
I've been giving luck points (rerolls) to my pcs for contributing to the game forums...it's been pretty successful.

I like having the forums, both as a place for character discussion directly with the gm outside the game, and as a place to find background info about NPCs, locations, etc. I do agree with whodo that there seemed to be too much, which meant that a lot of it ended up going unused. That was unfortunate, but I'm hopeful going forward that we'll see less of that.
