Just about an hour in to this one and I have to say you guys are one of the best actual play groups I've ever listened to! I think being able to play real world like characters might make it easier to get into character...because the role playing is fucking fantastic!
Great GMing JiB! This is why I think APs are so cool. Chock full of ideas to steal for plot, technique, and gaming style.
"I'm a minor!!"
"Yeah she might die of black lung!"
CADave joke grenades are pretty damn amazing...

Thank you DT very very much appreciated. I take no real credit. I came up with a story line, but it's the amazing players that make it awesome. Gina, Dave, Rob, Clockverk, Stork and Kurt are totally the shit. Cheers, JiB

I'm curious about the ending...SPOILERS...it felt like there was no way for it to not end like it did. Was this your plan all along? How much prep did you do for it? Because the second half definitely felt like they were driving the train off the tracks :-)
Note: Vehicle chase scenes and combat..not that they got to do it very long :-)
I have some vehicle based scenes on the way in my Jackercon game. I was thinking about how if the Hum V scene had gone on it would have been nice to allow the non driver characters be able to make rolls to assist/detract from the drivers rolls by blowing zombies out of the way, yelling watch out for that concrete piling, etc. Just a thought to keep everybody busy when only one person is driving...

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS I knew that this ending or something like it was very much a possibility. I did not know that it WOULD end that way. Interestingly in the game at the convention, all of the player characters survived. They also knew more about what was going on than the play testers did. Vehicle scenes are always tricky because of exactly what you pointed out. I want the pc's to be able to do whatever they WANT to do. That said, for most of the drive one of the characters was curled up in a ball sobbing because she had just accidentally killed a little girl. As for prep I really don't know how to quantify it, but I am going to write an article about my game prep process shortly. JiB

They also knew more about what was going on than the play testers did. JiB This was one of the few games, as the "info/techie" character, that I really felt like my particular talents were integral to party success without being completely useless the rest of the time. (See also: Hacker and/or Mechanic in most games).

Just listening again to the audible version of World War Z...bummer the movie won't do it justice. But, the world of zombie apocalypse that Max Brooks creates would be a fantastic campaign!

Thank you everyone, I very much appreciate your kind words and thoughts. At the end of the day all I want is to run games that people enjoy playing and if we're going to record them that will be enjoyable to listen to.
Mook was bloody fantastic in that role and totally made it come alive. That was exactly what I was envisioning when I wrote the character.
I am utterly spoiled by the caliber of players I get to game with.
Thank you again,
JiB

This was fun to listen to, and I think the fact (SPOILERS) everyone dies in the end was testament to the brilliance of everyone's (including the GMs) roleplaying. I'm sure every player recognised the signals (weapon codes, "package" etc) and could have chosen to metagame a little and get the hell out. But they chose to play their characters as the confused and argumentative ordinary joes that might actually be in a shopping mall when zombies attack.
Well done, JiB and the team. A compelling listen.

Very glad you enjoyed it fredrix. I do rather wish I had a recording of how the game went at the convention. I think it would be fun to listen to.
Cheers,
JiB

Hey it is bugging me. Who are all the players? One of them sounds like Stew but I am pretty sure it isn`t. Why does he sound like Stew though?

Canadave aka spideydave aka Dave McBride Players from the playtest: CADave (Rober Hightower), Stork (Andrew Thiessen), Hosier Rob Taylor (Roderick Thibedeaux), Stephen "Clockverk" Ibarra (Margaret Hightower), Gina Ricker (Alexa Daniels) and Kurt Hanna (Todd Sanders) So much fun with players like these it is so hard to go wrong even I can't screw it up. It was a great game. I had a character that was, in my estimation, completely inadequate for combat scenarios, and as such it lent very much to the feeling of dread and fear against the zombies that, I would imagine, a "real" zombie encounter would be. Much thanks again to JiB for inviting me to participate.
As a side note: having listened to the AP episode after the fact, I realized that, while I was aware at the time that I was getting pretty drunk by the end, I was kind of embarrassed listening to how drunk I was.
I have already altered my behavior vis. drinking during gaming after having heard it.
