MAD MAX!!! cause his name is Max and he's Mad . . . I'll never know why the American distributors felt they had to retitle it . . . 'Road Warrior' sounds like some counter culture code for a perverse sexual practice not dissimilar to dressing up as one of the Village People . . . Aaron I thought Mad Max was called Mad Max but the second movie was called The Road Warrior... Didn't they also re-dub it with American accents?

Regarding playing nobles:
I found the question about how to play a noble a little strange. Ultimately nobles are like everyone else. Usually they would have the advantage of being richer than everyone else and perhaps the ability to get tutored. In game terms (I'm thinking GURPS/Savage Worlds here) advantages/disadvantages, skills, etc are all completely open.
On the podcast the team hit on a number of tropes found in literature and film regarding royalty. In history there has been the full gambit of "character" types: warrior kings like Charlemagne straight over to his complete opposite Louis XI referred to as "The Universal Spider," for his lowlife underhanded ways. Brilliant men like Peter the Great and dimwits like King George III who went totally bonkers by the end of his reign. Nice, cruel, pious, profane, charasmatic, hated, at the end of the day it takes all types, the biggest difference is the noble's actions radiate out because of who they are and touch other people.
The best resource for playing in or GMing a game where nobles are invloved is an incredibly short book "The Prince" by Nicolo Machiavelli. Less than a hundred pages and chock full of what every noble needs to know.

I think with nobles, especially high nobles - it can be easy to forget that the lord-vassal relationship was an exchange. High nobles need to make sure their vassals don't become disgruntled or they might find they aren't really a noble at all

Didn't they also re-dub it with American accents? Too LIMEY!! I love that shit! Plus Mel Gibson was Australian at the time - fresh outta NAIDA with no US acting career mainly because he was still resident in Oz appearing in many TV Dramas. He was/is born in the US but was raised in Oz as his father relocated there when Mel was 12 so Mel's older brother could avoid the draft. His Oz accent was genuine not acting. There was that "fuck off you ungrateful prick" moment when Mel was interviewed in the US, shortly after the Lethal Weapon film, where he sets about distancing himself from Oz to the point of denying any significant time spent living there. Then he revealed himself as batshit crazy, I figured you could keep him at that point . . . Besides Mel I remember you in 'The Sullivans' you thankless jerk . . . Aaron

Just finished the episode and wanted to say that the short discussion of The Fantasy Trip brought back a lot of fun memories. It was my first point-buy system after years of playing D&D. Yes, I'm that old. It was very liberating to be able to build a character to the story I had in mind for them.
Dark City Games still publishes games using the system including the kind of weird programmed adventures that you can play solo. They've adapted the system to SciFi and Old West along with the traditional Fantasy and you can get stripped down versions of the rules from them for free.
I have the original MetaGame in PDF if anyone is interested.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say, thanks for reading my letter. I could not stop laughing. I cut it back from three pages.
Dark City looks like they have cherry picked together rules from basic Melee and Wizard for their Legends pdf. There are rumors that the copywrite ran out on TFT a few years ago. So it may be in public domain, but at the same time it doesn't look like anyone has tried to reprint any of that material, so it may just be a rumor.

High nobles need to make sure their vassals don't become disgruntled or they might find they aren't really a noble at all Yes, I don't understand why some players seemed to think that the pseudo-medieval setting of fantasy games gives the license to act like some hippy collective f adventurers where everyone is equal. Perhaps Ros because you Yanks invested RPGs Fact is, as Bob says "Everybody's gotta serve somebody" Aragorn remember, was a noble (though he didn't like to brag). Games of Thrones is ALL about who's noble and who ain't. People who can't play (or play with) nobles in RPGs shouldn't be plating RPGs 'cos they can't role-play. The challenges of playing a noble may be different from those of playing a thief, but their goals are much the same: the thief might worry where his next meal is coming from, the noble worries about how his vassals are going to eat through winter. Leadership is all about responsibility, and there's just as much role playing in that as there s anywhere else. In the Excalibur campaign my group have been playing for the last 30 years, my mate is now High King, yet still finds plenty to challenge him.

I think I'm going to abandon the fantasy grounds aspect this time through. Just play it on roll20 and G+. Also I think I'll bump the system back down to Warhammer 2e because roll20 doesn't have the symbol dice for 3e. Please don't! I love 3e it's so easy to learn because of the dice. Also there is an online dice roller for 3e that I have used in line with hangouts and roll20. brokentome.com/tools/DiceRoller.aspxHey JC (JoeCrak). Curious to know...do you use that online dice roller embedded in Roll20 ? or just in another window ? I'm a bit concerned that all of the other fiddly bits included in the Fantasy Grounds II VTT might be missed using Roll20? I'll run the game in 3e but it might not be ALL of 3e (party sheets, cards, etc...). Whaddya think ? Thanks again for the diceroller link!

When we used it, it was in another window, often using the screen share, it wasn't embedded in roll20, one common thing is the dice roller needs to be reloaded after too long.
As for cards when we played online all the players owned their cards or a computer version, so I don't fault you for thinking about dropping that.

I would say on the subject of playing nobles, that if anybody wants to get an idea of what it is put to be ennobled versus the versus being someone who is either just the normal person or as a servant, they should watch either Gosford Park or Downton Abby. Or both.
If you're more inclined towards the Scottish end of things, and the more modern end of things, and the more comedic end of things, and people who are generally unlikable then you'll want to watch a show which is on Netflix called "Monarch of the Glen ".

For those interested in TFT, there's an excellent comparison document out there that lists a few clones and the original games and how they interrelate. I'm getting more and more interested in the system the more I hear about it.
