THEMES! For Con games for the total win.
Jackercon2013 Part Deux: Wrath of the Pantsless!
(Somehow, someway, no matter what game, no matter what system somebody will lose their pants.)
Thanks for the quality scene building break down crew. Very helpful so far and still listening to this episode.

"Wrath of the Pantsless"... I'm getting ideas for a Ren & Stimpy - Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen adventure.

I haven't listened to the episode yet, so this comment probably has NOTHING to do with it. But I got the baby up from her nap on Saturday and she wasn't wearing pants, I immediately began singing the Boggards song and ended up pulling up the youtube vid to play it for my wife who was questioning my sanity.
'Cry of the Pantsless' is the baby's Boggard's cover band name.

As I listen to the Podcast: Thieves World - the experiment continues with new characters, new writers and set decades after the original compilation. The city/town was called Sanctuary. The original RPG was actually a multisystem setting box set by Chaosium detailing the personas and Sanctuary with a players guide and a GM's guide and a 3rd booklet compling all the NPC's stats by RPG system (with individual contributions by designers who worked on the relevant RPG systems presented. This setting box was the one that first got me interested in other systems beyond just the big three at the time (AD&D, Traveller, Runequest) Accents: the old BBC accent was RP or Received Pronunciation and is deliberately 'without an accent' ie: no regional inflections.Home counties isn't RP or Posh . . . its simply well enunciated: no dropped H's and vowels deliberately pronounced . . . think Eliza Dolittle AFTER 'She's got it' (My Grandmother was originally from the Home Counties and used to frequently correct mum and myself when she was alive eg: Daanse not danze, baath not bayth) Aaron

I love the dark, "Nobody's really good," feel of the place. It in large part informed most of my fantasy games over the years. JiB

Thank you for the Scenes explanation. Now I can get to work writing some one-shot con games! No Rob, I won't complain... you dick. I say that in the most loving manner I can muster. The Wire is an amazing show. When I first started to watch it I almost turned it off halfway through the first episode never to watch again, but something convinced me to keep watching and I'm glad I did. Its really good. I got my badge via DoucheyDM LAST YEAR. I won't even attempt to get one next year so if Stu doesn't get a press badge it won't be my fault! It was surprisingly easy to get one and I had to provide absolutely ZERO credentials. It does give you access to some media based news from WotC(at least thats the only company that sent them to me), and a few special events. Adam Pinilla formerly of Fear the Boot and The Podgecast was the brainchild behind the Listeners Survey and he recently Tweeted "If you had to guess what the most popular RPG Podcast is, what would you say?" Which leads me to believe someone has overtaken FtB. IIRC, last year Happy Jacks was number 2. Are they now Number 1? The thing that everyone concentrates on with a Min/Max'd character is the Max. I try to concentrate on the Min. To make that Max'd ability they had to have gimped something else pretty severely. So, pick on that thing as often as you can. Yeah assholes, Amish Country. Home of the best freaking baked goods a fat man could ever get his salivating lips around. They also make amazing furniture, which was the primary reason we went. We were pricing out a new dining room/gaming table. Found one I really want... too bad with the 8 chairs it was going to be $6000. Instead we found one we like thats a paltry $2000 that we will be purchasing in a few months. Hey Rob, you're sorta there... the best pickup line would be "You raised my pole, now lets work on raising a barn." Right? Hey Stork, I don't need to make my wife a chest, she has a roomy one already. *wink* Thanks for the advice on the gifts. I'm looking at a budget of $5-$10 per gift and I was thinking maybe some of those HUGE d20 dice would be kinda neat. I might do that, but I was hoping for something cooler. I guess I'll just have to look around. BTW, thanks for busting my balls repeatedly through this podcast, reminds me that I'm loved.

I don't think you would have any trouble getting a badge for both the blog and the podcast. Heck, I got two badges for my podcast one year even though the policy is only one.

FIASCO NOT A ROLE PLAYING GAME ?!? I thoroughly played my role of a fluff loving podcaster in Sir Guidos game, I had some amazing inspiration from somewhere...

The "Fiasco is not a RPG" thing is in reference to a kerfuffle that happened on G+. Someone tagged me and asked if people though it was an RPG. I was quoted as saying it's not.
Now I haven't gone back and listened to every episode, but my guess is I said something like, "Fiasco is not an RPG in terms of the way most of us think of RPGs," my contention being that "Role-playing Game" in its definition carries more that simply "a game in which you role-play."
Like most threads that devolve to arguing over the definition of terms, it wasn't a productive kerfuffle.

I'm actually about to post a topic on the forum about massive city building for my one-on-one AD&D game. I thought it would be fun to make a city with ideas crowd sourced from r/Loremasters, but no one seemed to understand what I was trying to do and I only got one helpful reply. It has been a really daunting task so I broke it down as follows: - List basic details (government type, language, monetary unit, etc.)
- Break the areas into "burrows" and give them a basic feel (as mentioned on the podcast)
- List 10 major locations the PC will most likely visit (parent's home, personal temple, prison, etc.)
- Flesh out major NPCs for those 10 locations
- Draw a basic map for the overall area. I used this method from the Fantastic Maps blog, placed my Big 10 locations first, then filled in roads and misc., unnamed bulidings after
My city is much bigger than the one at the Fantastic Maps link. To handle that, I assign and build more places during each prep session I have between games. I make myself accountable to build at least two small locations, one medium location, or 1/2 a big location each time. This keeps me from feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work there is left to do while still giving my player fun new locations each session. None of these places get a permanent map space unless I feel really strongly about where they would be. Last session I used up a kabob street vendor (small location), a steed stable (small location), and a spice market (medium location). Now they have a permanent location on my map. I should also mention I hate building detailed maps (you can see the map making step was dead last). I much prefer talking it through and keeping it fluid, but this city is too large for my laziness. 100% of the time, my buildings get pre-made maps from the internet. After a bit more work, I plan to pay someone to draw it up for me in Illustrator so I can pass out a map. I'm so glad you mentioned Crucible of Realms. It's a GREAT example of how to brainstorm your world. I used their method (they have helpful paperwork) for my current world. Going forward, I'll probably sit down and do this process with my players.

Stu, I find it funny that you mention our GURPS G+ game and I just today unearthed my character sheet from the ridiculous pile of papers on my desk. This is a sign. Make it happen, sir. Make it happen!

Thanks for the mention of Crucible of Realms! We're working on the editing process to see if we can start getting episodes out faster, but in the mean time we're still chugging along with it, slowly but surely... (And for reference, yes, I'm still not dead.)
